Don’t do it would be my answer. They take a huge cut. If you’re going to take a rate cut, at least do it for something that is an investment in yourself. For me, that means working directly with another consultant or freelancer or small studio or small brand or startup agency or nonprofit client on a project basis for a cause you believe in, something you need for your portfolio, et cetera.
I've noticed it depends on if the agency pays W2 or not. You're right that they pay less. I've noticed $20-$30/hr less between what I could get and them, but the biggest impact is how you're paid. It hurts less when it's W2 aha
Yeah this will be w2 which I kind of prefer simply because I don’t have to worry about estimated tax payments. Although I do need to figure out how to do my w4 so I get the right amount of withholding.
A temp agency (third-party staffing agency) WILL TAKE 50% of your paycheck.
Avoid them completely!
Whatever rate the staffing agency is offering you.. you can easily double or triple it if you do the legwork and go direct.
Just curious for what’s w2,w4?
w9 - no taxes taken out. you get 100%, but your responsible for everything (equipment, insurance, taxes). you are your own business.
w4 - taxes are taken out for you automatically per paycheck. you are taken care of by the company (they give you a laptop, 401k, etc) you’re an employee
