LA: country club, in all senses of the word.
LA just won a grip of Lions, if that matters. I don’t think we’re dying btw; there haven’t been layoffs and the opening of the Dallas office doesn’t seem to have affected us. Creative leadership wants to make better work. Definitely country clubbish in that the creative dept is empty (except for digital/social) by 5:45. If that bothers you, there are plenty of sweatshops in LA. Toyota spends a LOT of money on marketing so there are always creative opportunities and job security. Plus the people here are really nice. Yeah, not sure what the negativity is about! Of course there are negatives like anywhere else but it’s a really nice balance of things.
@OP I worked on Tide (great account). Walmart does decent stuff. I wouldn’t want to be on Olay... haha
Really nice people, but still nothing fun to work on at the NY office. Tide ad was also developed by a team from South America, not the NY creatives, so they need more clients for there to be a ton of upside
Can someone describe "country club" in reference to agencies?
Country club: Good hours, long project timelines, low stress, pool boys.
Tide Ad changed everything
LA soes shit work. NY did the Tide ad which was awesome.
I was at SSLA for two years and it’s consistent work; I wouldn’t say it’s shit work by any means, but there’s not a *ton* of variety in day-to-day projects. The people are wonderful. The work-life balance is also wonderful. It’s somewhat country club, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It depends on what type of agency culture or environment you’re looking for
@Sapient also white af
SSLA did stellar work on the olympics, which is Toyota’s global rebranding effort. Large brand building instead of pushing sales, if you get on that team.
I worked there for a little over a year and a half. It depends on the account honestly
@AE1 which are good and which are not?
The LA office is dying!! Heard the NY one is thriving though!
@SS2 how’s the strategy team in LA?
Bruceeeeeeeee
@SS2 pool boys?? you’re joking right
You thought it was a metaphorical country club?
@SS2 as opposed to a literal country club? yes
