None of these are truly comparable to one another because it depends on whether your firm does single-counting or double-counting in awarding revenue credit. We do double-counting because it incents teaming (as opposed to eat what you kill) which is a core part of our culture. The folks elected internally will typically have had revenue credits of between $20-$40M per year for the last 3-4 years in most geographies. APAC is a bit lower given the market.

Those who are on the path to partner are involved in large numbers of pursuits for their clients and clients in the industry or service practice where they are aligned. If a $10M project is sold, everyone who is involved in the win gets $10M of credit. We are very good at evaluating the contributions of individuals to pursuits and whether or not they were meaningful.

OW, Germany: No hard thresholds. Evidence of sustainable sales potential >3m

It’s about book of business and not what just what you did last year. Book is business doesn’t get done in 1 year

So what has been your track record for last few years . What does it looks like for next few years. Your leadership skills and what you exactly are you known for and sell (practice, offering , service line etc etc). You need to be in the partner pipeline to begin with. The year you submit your papers should be the climax and not the whole movie. They are trying to see if you are capable to generating revenue consistently and not just one big sale you made that year

That’s how it works in EY US

Ofc, agreed, it's about much more than just one year of revenue, that's clear. Client relationships, leadership skills, practice development all matter.

However, many consulting firms do have some type of revenue threshold (e.g. for the past year, the upcoming year or next few years).

We elect people with assumption that they will bring in business.

This isn't how McKinsey works

K1 this may be the case as Kearney, and I can't even speak for BB.

I can tell you that there are an exceedingly small proportion of Partners who stay at McKinsey for the money. There are much easier jobs that pay much more.

In the past we have done work that we should not have, and this was wrong- obviously. I actually know the actors in a particular incident- the individual had a long relationship (20 years +) with the client. When a friend asked him for help he rationalised away the impact. I'm not saying he should be forgiven, I'm saying he wasn't motivated by money when he did it.

US - we’re expected to have 3+ years at $3-4M, with your last year closer to $5-6M

It means that someone can do all the heavy lifting but give quite a bit of their allocations to a Director or two. Resulting in us electing partners who can’t sell worth a lick. In a bad year, like this one, it really hurts us.

At T2, between 2-3 Mio € per year as a partner. But that's not how you become partner.

We look at potential to bring business in the year to come.

Interested also to know how does BCG work?

Depends on the region and the service line/practice you’re in, but for me, it was $6M revenue and $6M sales in 2 of the last 4 yrs.

I recently moved from California to Pennsylvania and am job searching and my resume is all California. I was on a call with a recruiter for a remote job and they assumed I still lived in CA. When discussing salary, the range I gave them they said was fine since I live in CA and I had to tell them that I live in PA now. He did some calculations and then quoted me a number that was $25k/yr less for the same job. How much leverage do you think I have to negotiate back up to that original figure?
