What role could we and other ad schools play in your mission? How can we prepare the talent of tomorrow to help once they get into the industry?
We’re always getting knocked for lack of diverse hiring for creatives, but that starts with ad schools in many cases. I’m sure it’s part of your agenda as well but just want to keep the pressure on!
We’re very happy with our first two quarters of enrolled students thus far, I suspect you will be, too. But please, always keep the pressure on! It’s a good thing.
partner with agencies to get internship spots for your students. lots of post-grad support. we got basically no help from our program and it left a bunch of the students feeling frustrated
Yep, our entire last quarter is dedicated to job placement!
What program did you go through?
In fact, ad schools can play a huge role. The kids coming into this business now are much more attuned to the ramifications of what we do. Advertising pays for everything we look at, from
Gmail to Instagram to TV. We can change what is funded and supported with our ad dollars. So with that, we have an enormous responsibility to teach this to those entering advertising. It’s not enough to write ads anymore. We need to think about where those ads are going and what they will change.
I’m speaking to a lot more schools now about this. I taught a single class at UC Berkeley Haas School of Business last year about ethics in marketing and I’m going to continue to do as much of that as I can. Knowing not just what we’re saying, but how we’re saying it and what it supports is going to be a unique skill that we’re all going to need to have moving forward.
Push them to apply for awards. Have classes where the sole focus is to crack One show and D&ad briefs. So many CDs and Recruiters have started noticing me since I won a D&AD yellow pencil.
