What roles have you found best suited to your skills? I was diagnosed recently and worry that I might never develop the concise communication needed for the strategist to executive career path. Would appreciate this group’s thoughts on adjacent areas to explore

Have not found this to be an blocker - you may just need to spend more time editing when writing. I wouldn’t take yourself out of the running for this alone if that’s a career path of interest to you.

Communication is a skill that can be learned.

I really appreciate this question. I often feel the same way about my own communication style. I feel limited sometimes by my inability to communicate clearly in conversations with people. I'm not sure if you mean spoken communication or written communication. I tend to do better with writing, but I know that a lot of roles depend on being able to converse easily with others... and it's just not always easy with ADHD.

Entrepreneur with a detail oriented project manager by my side.

Also I communicate best in writing. So my most successful jobs have been those that involve delivering written documents. I’m less good at managing things like construction projects that require tons of verbal communication. I was also a college instructor for a while and although I liked it I felt very stressed when lecturing.

I am great at listening to employees and having open ended conversations. But when it comes time for me to guide or instruct, I always email. Both for clarity and so I can remember what I told them to do and when

Thanks for raising this topic, I never really thought about this as an adhd thing before. I was a very nervous communicator for decades. Although I’m better now given all the practice, tv interviews are my absolute downfall. I turn into Cindy Brady on a game show

If you dont mind me asking what industry do you work in?

I’ve found learning to mimic other styles helps with my rambling and gives me better frames. I don’t think there’s many things one can’t do because of adhd but definitely things that might not be worth the extra effort.

This is actually really helpful info. I have struggled with this myself. THank you for sharing this.

Anything that I can shorten feedback loops on. My version of test driven develop work is the best for me because I can more frequently get feedback from the computer or information system.

I went in-house 3 years ago. At the time, I was interviewing with 2 companies. One company was a much better cultural fit for me and I was 1 of 2 finalists. But they chose the other applicant. I got the other job and have been there ever since. The work is ok,but I still struggle with company culture daily. 3 years later, the original job that I wanted has been reposted. Reach out to the GC directly to show interest? Is it worth moving from a comfy job just bc I think the culture will be better?
