New staff get 80k. Why 60k?
Agreed. It's a situation like this. Or an associate who doesn't do their market research and takes a low paying job offer. And it effects the industry as a whole by negativity reducing the average median pay. You have a CPA, you should be well aware of that.
Internal audit is good wlb and could potentially be at 40 hours or less.
But the bigger question is why aim for 60k if you have a cpa?
Hey Manager 2, fishbowl says I can’t dm you
You could also look into a part time schedule and could likely pull in that income
I would look into accounting positions at government entities too. Internal audit can be 40 hours for a non-public company but I’ve had some clients where the IA department works on average 40-45 and during busy season, they’re at 50-55 or more. The external audit deadlines still impact them if they’re doing any direct assist or control reliance work.
Basically anything should be able to get that. You can even get that in public by just doing a structured work arrangement. Those are essentially arrangements where you work 75% of the standard hours for 75% of the pay. Could be less than 75% if you wanted too, just depends on the firm. Depends on your area too. I’ve seen some staff positions only pay low $60s, but those were LCOL areas.
Non profits are kind of a maybe. I audit some non profits and a lot of them do not pay well. Recently saw the CFO of one is only making $125k. Of course, some of my other clients pay better than that.
Started two years ago and was only offered 62k...
Government.
For 60k a year you dont even have to do 40 hours. I work contract 20 hours a month and already earn 60k. You are having too low expectations especially with a cpa.
I contract with a firm to prepare indirect tax returns and also provide consulting. I have 30% commission on compliance and full rate on consulting projects. I manage about 4 clients a month, and only have to work between the 5-15th of the month. Each client is about $1-1.5k/month and I spend 5 hours a month each.
