What should I do if an extended family member is asking me for help with an area of tax that I am not familiar with (foreign life insurance)? Try to research for them or tell them to ask a tax lawyer?

I just tell them it’s not what I do for a living. Sometimes I can answer it but even then I tell them it’s not what I do for a living and then will email them helpful links that should get them the answer they need. Granted I have like 50 cousins and am the only accountant so I get popular around early April.

Imagine if you missed some nuance of the tax code (like that never happens...) and gave them the wrong advice. The only thing I’ve ever felt comfortable checking for a family member has been that they got the right address on their 83(b) election.

Refer them to a tax lawyer/sophisticated accountant who deals with foreign issues for individuals. DM me and I can give you some referrals.

When I started working at 22 I started off with 15% of salary into traditional tax deferred 401k. I’m now 27 with 88k in my tax deferred account, and am thinking about converting it to a Roth account. I don’t know much, but is this advisable? Is it generally the case that is rather pay taxes now if I think I’ll be making more money later in my career, thus I’ll be taxed at a higher rate than compared to today? And when is the best time to convert? Sooner rather than later? When mrkts are frothy?

I am torn about 2 offers I have (one I've accepted at a v10, & the practice i'm joining is band 1 ranked), and an in-house role where the hours would be much less, and the pay cut somewhat steep. Pros of the firm job are (1) $ since we are trying to buy a house and (2) It will hopefully be easy to go in-house after a few years at the firm. The in house gig is at a fintech firm that sounds amazing (great culture, hours are 9 to 6, and the work sounds ideal for me). I have 2 small kids. Advice?

Quite miffed as I just got a small pay rise and now I think this plus the upcoming not rises in utilities and inflation will pretty much cancel it out.

Recently left my previous employer and am trying to decide what to do with my 401K. I am able to roll it to my new employer, but have been thinking about converting it to an IRA and then subsequently converting that to a Roth over the next 3-5 years. I know this conversion is considered income in the year I convert, and therefore taxable in that year. Any other fish recently think through this? Any key things you considered when deciding what to do with your 401K?

DO YOU JUST ASSUME THE COST OF YOUR MARKETING ACTIVITIES? I am looking to allocate their cost in the marketing budget in a way that won't rely on several layers of assumptions. How do you reliably estimate the cost of different marketing activities (email, social, web, etc) when you don't have specific people or tools allocated to each function and costs are spread across many channels? Ads seems the easiest, but even then there's time and overheads... I've been looking for a reliable model.
