What should I do to improve my chances of being continuously promoted within the department?

Do your job with honor and to the best of your abilities, that's the only thing you can control. Don't worry so much about continuous promotions because that's just a metric given by society, the real judge of your character is you.

You're a chief so I should be asking you this question... LOL

Keep your eye on the ball, file all of your reports as soon as you are able (as opposed to waiting until the last minute), and learn all you can about the job you want. Also, don't be afraid to switch departments if you need to; I used to be an officer and while it's a lateral transfer rather than a promotion, the same logic applies.

I recently realized that I don’t care to have a prestigious consulting job, I care to have a job to feed myself and allow me to dedicate time to other entrepreneurial ventures/investments. I think it’d be a job that will keep stress to a minimum (or very rarely), pay a healthy amount (e.g. 80 - 90 for 2 YOE in a MCOL), and consistently work a firm 40 hours or less, has relatively easy work, and fully remote. can only think of an internal auditor/contractor role.

Any suggestions?
