What should I look for as I apply to my first copywriting job? Culture? Awards? Creative directors' books?

People, always. Look who is in there what they've done ask about their reputation. How they treat jrs and stuff like that.

like

Find who you like and then look to see if they have a podcast on don’t get me started. You can tell a lot about them from listening to a conversation.

like

Not really and they will bullshit you anyways. But you gotta ask you friends, portfolii school tecaher. This is a small word and people know each other.

like

How do you learn about how they genuinely treat juniors and foster new talent if you don't know anyone well at the agency? Is there a strategic way to ask that question to bypass HR BS?

like

To me, the work is the only thing that has ever mattered. I've had people tell me certain CDs or CCOs are inhumane narcissists, who would just as soon tear apart your shit ideas in front of everyone as they would sacrifice you at the altar of Cannes.

Of course, they were right. But what they missed was that if you can keep up and actually provide some value, they'll protect you with—well, if not their lives, then their wallets (and their wisdom, which is almost as valuable).

The sooner you recognize we're all tools to and for one another, the better. Just remember that it's friction that makes the sharpest ones.

So, yes: the work, and the ambition of the work, are all that should really matter.

Any recommendations (including specific agencies) are welcome!

I agree that it's the people. You should try to figure out if there are people you want to work with, learn from, sit with for an entire night or weekend in the trenches. You should ask if you can interview with a couple people at, or near, the level you'd be coming in at. Then ask your tough questions. Those people will be best equipped to answer them and answer them honestly. You can also look them up on LinkedIn and message them there. Just be prepared to work. Be smart and you'll be respected. Be whiny and act like you deserve something before you've proven anything and even the good ones will turn on you. This is a super fun business as long as you remember that it can be super fun. Good luck. Enjoy.

@SW1 if you can choose to work with talented nice guys and talented assholes, which one would you prefer? I've been in both places. I've been mentored by one of the greatest art director in the world. And I also had worked for a big asshole but this asshole really liked me and I was fine. But was hard to see him dealing with others. Of course that even making this research is not everything. I moved to an agency that I knew that was shitty just because everyone told me that the new ECD was awesome (and in fact he did awesome work in the past). The guy was a major asshole with me and protected others that were making a shitty work but licking his balls. But I still believe you should follow good people.

Based on hiring freeze would you consider Product Technology Manager (technical solutions consultant ladder) as “critical function” ? I’m done with all my interviews, was told that my rounds were “really positive” and HR would come back to me in 2-3 weeks after completing final rounds of other candidates. I’m optimistic, but still do you see that that this role might still survive as its technical?

After my first HR round the recruiter decided to speak with seniors and find out if they will consider me for a senior position. (This took 2 weeks)

I had two technical round, at the end of the second round I was told that someone else also needs to also take your interview. (This tools 3 weeks)

HR to decide who will this person be.

It's been two weeks since my last interview. Still waiting to heard back from the Reciter. It's this normal? What should I do next?

Completed my loop for an L5 TPM role last Friday (I split my loop into 2 days — game changer!). My biggest advice is use the peer informal interview to your fullest advantage. I got some extremely useful information from the individual on what the team does and I was able to tailor my examples / stories accordingly.

I heard back yesterday immediately after my debrief that I got the job!

Hello, any advise on how to handle a past job situation about 5 years ago, that I quit without 2 week notice,? I started in June and lasted 3 months with a solo attorney who’s behaviour was unacceptable, I learned that I was his 8th paralegal and soon I learned why. I demanded to be talked as a human and after another incident I quit the same day. He gave me a bad review to a recruiter in the past, and I’m interested In applying for a giant tech position which I know will be an issue. Thx

I am looking to gain certification or other credentialing in diversity and inclusion, not only because it would look good on my resume both for future job-search purposes and also to become better educated in this area, which is growing in importance.
I looked at SHRM's "Inclusive Workplace Culture Specialty Credential" and got a bit of "sticker shock" at the cost - $1,655.00 for members.
Does anyone have other suggestions on training/credentialing in this area?

Hello all! I’m in the interview process for a 1 year contract-to-hire role. I have one final interview next week, but I really have enjoyed meeting the company. Should they extend an offer, I would be glad to accept, but I would prefer the contract to hire term to be shortened.

When is a good time to negotiate that term? Once the offer is made? A few weeks in? And should I approach the company directly or the staffing agency?

I gave 3rd round interview yesterday with hiring manager and hr called and said I cleared it and there is one more final round with On-site manager.

Today he called and said that the hiring manager who took my interview forwarded me to another panel and there is one more round with different manager and only if I clear then there will be another final round with on-site manager

what does that mean?

If they cannot extract it due to some reason, will they release my offer letter? Please clarify this.
