Just open an account with trading212 or free trade and get a stocks and share ISA (20k limit a year). Invest in popular ETF : Vanguard has good ones and forget about it for the next 10 years
In order of priority: maximise pension match > maximise S&S ISA > add cash to savings account to increase emergency fund > invest additionally in GIA if opportunities come up in the market > invest in EIS startups through equity crowdfunding platforms
I personally use pension and stocks & shares ISA (I just see the growth in the long term as probably more worthwhile). I use a company tied with St James Place as opposed to the online ones like Nutmeg for example.
If I recall correctly, SJP charges an entry fee and then a lower annual fee that is ongoing. The reason I suggest other advisors is they will probably have lower costs to serve; SJP works on a franchise model where the firm provides the brand and back office including execution functions while partners (ie salespeople) do the day to day advice. In effect, there's an added margin on top of the advice you get, which is why it's so chunky.
Check out their reports if you want to look into their business model I'd say. I'll leave it to other posters to suggest actual products though.
Thanks all, will you recommend nutmeg? They claim to have best returns in past.
Nutmeg tried to be independent and then didn't acquire sufficient AUM to build a sustainable business, then were acquired by JPM. I'd look into why that is to see whether they are the partner for you.
If you’re income is around Director and above as it seems from this post, I’d recommend getting an advisor and accountant. Will pay dividends in long run
I use vanguard. You get 20k tax-free per year
