What spooky (kid-friendly) DIY Halloween decorations are you putting in your classroom? Would love some ideas!

You can never go wrong with some pumpkins! You can even carve some out for an activity you can do together. Sounds like fun, right?

I love working with felt with the kids! You can make ghosts, pumpkins, moons with cats, really easy things. If you wanted to get a bit more detailed, you can also make witches and bubbling cauldrons. And felt is super cheap to buy in bulk!

I usually stick with the traditional stuff - pumpkins, ghosts (friendly looking ones, of course), black cats and lots and lots of spiders (for some reason, kids get a big kick out of spiders).

Yes. I do bats and spiders and pumpkins.

Pumpkins! They're easy to make and a great decor. The kids loved it too.

Pumpkins, skeletons, spiderwebs....glow-in-the-dark stickers

Anything harvest-related will normally work! Feel like there are varying degrees of intensity with which some of the ghosts and witches can appear; I've seen kid friendly options at Party City.

Speak for yourself lol. I love to decorate my physics room. I use cool lights and electricity and lab stuff painted black.

Hello! Pumpkins and spiders are my go-to. Also add some faux webs to complete the theme!

Gotta have the fake web I love it! the kids really love it too. They love putting the little spiders in it.

Doing the toilet paper roll bats I saw on pinterest. Currently looking for materials to make floating witch hats and fluffy pumpkins.

I sure hope elementary teachers are given the freedom to do arts or crafts in class once in a while. When I was a kid, we didn’t have “specials” classes, so every Fri. afternoon was art. I really loved it, and it was something to look forward to. I still remember many of the things we made! With all the emphasis on standardized testing and specialization, are you able to do that?

Cobwebs, spiders, pumpkins, little skeleton men, and floating candles Harry Potter style!

Hi there! Just wondering, does your school give you a budget for the diy decorations you put in your classroom?

Thinking about going all out Coco this year! My students love the movie so much. I can't disappoint them.

I don’t do this any more but when I taught elementary school, world explorers was our first social studies unit. The kids would make gravestones and we would use our poetry period to write rhyming epitaphs. Then we supplemented with cob webs etc.

Our 5 month old started daycare about 5 weeks ago. We’ve already had to keep her home for 2.5 of those 5 weeks due to catching various illnesses (croup, rsv, brinchiolitis, etc). Both my wife and I have been sick most of that time as well (gotten it from the baby). Wife is thinking we get a full time nanny for the next 4 months to help the baby build antibodies. Cost aside, is this feasible / worthwhile to go thru the effort / finding the right fit, only for 4 months?

Dropping this in a few bowls, sorry if you see it twice.
I'm transitioning from teaching 8th grade mathematics at a public school to teaching a 7/8 self-contained classroom at a charter school.
Any advice for teaching mixed grade levels or multi subject is appreciated: scheduling, classroom setup, subject order, behavior management, etc. I'm struggling to find my rhythm with only 6 weeks before kids return.
Thanks to everyone for your commitment and time, enjoy your summer!

🥹 I’d like to apologize to my parent’s neighbors and anyone else that heard me screaming like a lunatic at my dog. He wasn’t listening the first few times I called him to come inside nicely. 😤 It takes me sounding like I’m having a nervous breakdown for him to wag his tail like, “🤪 Why didn’t you just say so?” Pic of the pupper giving me the death stare behind my dad’s feet.

Conduct annual performance reviews with your kids and let them know their status in the family is at stake. There’s no feeling in the world that compares to seeing an 8 year old kid on a PIP turn it around and earn an invitation to come back next year.

Also wondering what curriculum is being used, if any, in your classrooms

Renegotiating my contract and curious about maternity leave policies at other practices/hospitals. Do you get paid leave? If so how much time off & are you getting full pay? We are a group of about 75 employees, 6 docs with 5 PA’s and only unpaid 12 weeks off.

How is your district implementing school reentry? How are you setting up your classrooms to meeting social distancing while still allowing for free play?

Would it be dumb to switch companies for at least a few years primarily to receive maternity benefits? I'd also make significantly more money and likely have more structured growth opportunities. Down side is that I do enjoy the work at my company... I'm just underpaid and they don't really seem to care about the satisfaction of their employees. My current company only has ST disability and not even FMLA.

First time Dad and my 15 month old keeps running up the stairs at my in-laws place and they keep encouraging it. Stairs are almost 10 inches high with nothing underneath and I’m worried that he might slip and fall in between the stairs. My FIL is a bit of a know-it-all and keeps insisting it’s safe and I don’t agree. What do I do? Don’t want to fight the entire house full of people about this and kid enjoys it too much and cries a lot if I/we prevent him from climbing

I’m halfway through virtual parent teacher conferences. How are your conferences going and how are you sharing student work with parents?
