The way the accrual works usually only matters if you leave. Presumably you negotiated (or know) the number of days you get off, no? I’ve never even discussed the accrual method prior to joining.

So PTO is something you can generally negotiate (the total #). Perfectly normal to be different from others - all depends what each negotiated. So some might have 20 and some might have 10. The accrual is generally just a division of that 15 over however they do periods (never heard of that varying or being negotiated)

A lot of places change accrual policies over the years and at promotion levels. So it is very likely you do (correctly) have a diff leave policy. 10hrs is about standard. Not impressive, but it's not terrible either. Having varying PTO policies is not unique to small firms nor even consulting. Businesses in general grow and change over the years (for better or worse). But in the future, PTO and sick leave are always things you should ask about before signing (although it may not be negotiable). It's still money just like equity, but in the form of time, so you should at least be aware. You live and you learn. ❤

I did ask about the sick policy, which was only 3 days, and almost didn’t sign because of that. They stressed to me they would work with me as they are a small company, and that no one there has ever run into any issues. They also used “California law” as reasoning why they had to write that out as they did? They definitely tried to rope me in so I would feel comfortable and I’m hoping I didn’t make a mistake. They said others there from my previous large company said the benefits were comparable if not better. But now I’m wondering if those people signed up for different benefits details?! Definitely live and learn. I was so excited about the promotion to Manager and pay bump that I didn’t want to push them too much.

So i served notice period there and my second organization asked me join immediately. Will this overlapping affect my bgv in wipro? Everything is genuine. Any suggestions?

Just received cousin's invite to her wedding and it's on a Sunday. It's not necessarily a destination wedding but is in a city that neither she nor her family, nor her partner's family lives, so everybody has to fly + get hotels. I'm annoyed because I think it's a but disrespectful to your guests to make them all travel and do it on a Sunday so people have to take time off work Monday in order to attend. I know I don't have to attend, but shouldn't it be convenient for guests?

I’ve never been a regular vacation-taker, but now I’m resolved to become one. Especially because my company has an unlimited PTO policy. Would 4 weeks of total vacation per year be considered a lot/excessive at your company? I’m thinking of doing two one week vacations, and one two week vacation, and booking them far in advance.

Is the real benefit to industry that your hours are flatter? I feel like I’ve been dragging through the summer but my average hours since June 1st end up being 41.2 hours per week. Used about 100 hours of PTO too not including holidays. Soon I’ll go up to about 50-55/wk through Oct 15th. Maybe I have it better than I thought?

Any thoughts on how to transition from tech startup to corporate development roles? I started at B4 leading digital transformations and now work at a tech startup. I see CD roles focused less on modeling and more on ops excellence which feels like my sweetspot. Also interested in joining a startup spinout from a CD dept. I've heard of these roles at large hedge funds, banks, pharma, but don't know what to look for or how to find these roles outside of joining headhunter networks. Any tips?
