Keep begging for work, and if you haven’t, tell partners specifically “hey I’m only 40 hours short of making the bonus target so would really appreciate if any ideas for what can I do to make those hours in September”. Agree with ask other associates/counsel/paralegals etc if they have work they can pass off to you.
Pro Bono if it counts or take on work from another group?
Is there a department related to your primary one that you'd feel comfortable taking on some work and you know is busy?
Wonder if that’s intentional, but maybe I’m just cynical
I was thinking the same, alway look to the money. OP, you could always try to go to a new place and have them cover it.
Reach out to your Talent Management department or a staffing partner and let them know you have availability and see what they say. You got nothing to lose at this point
@AA I hate when this happens- do you have a lawyer personnel committee that’s in charge of your reviews/non-partner issues? If so, try reaching out to them? Reach out to partners (including staffing partners) in other offices? Also, the managing partner of your office may be able to help too. Maybe a senior associate on a big litigation case/deal that needs help with doc review/due diligence? I’d just cast my net wide and see if anything sticks.
Can you offer to do doc review or diligence contacts reviews?
Ask another group for work? Get work through associates / counsels? I used to feed my work to other associates in December so they could make hours. Document your efforts to get work and appeal if you come up short? Get a lateral offer you can leverage to receive the bonus?
I’d be very straight up with the staffing partners - I need at least 40 hours, what can you give me. In my team they’d definitely try to help. You can also try speaking to other seniors or your peers and see what people can pass over to you if they’ve already hit target. Finally, pro bono and KM.
That’s crap. They should give it to you!
Time to send out case status emails and bill .1 for each. Maybe case review in preparation for case status update to client,, would be another .1. It won't be 40 hours but will help.
Big ticket something. I.e. Big diligence or discovery if you can swing it?
Are you a litigator or transactional attorney?
Transactional
You go out and find a new client.
