That would be unusual for a large co., but maybe not if they have no recruiting dept. and the HR person performs multiple functions.

When I went in-house, I did have a brief discussion about salary. It was just "what is your range?" After that, they set the interviews. It may be good to email them back and state that while you are interested, you are in no rush to leave your current job and would need a clear idea on numbers before you do that.

Ask to have a quick call with the scheduler in advance to discuss. Use your words, be polite. You got this!

Thanks! Update: I did this and she had no information about salary. She said the best person to ask is the hiring manager who is the fourth interview of the day out of four. So I guess it’s a mystery!

An initial call with HR would be the norm, but each company handles hiring differently. For my current role, I spoke with the hiring manager first and only exchanged email with the HR. If salary is a big concern, maybe that’s something you can address tactfully during your first call (hopefully that is with hiring manager).

I would look to Glassdoor for salary information if there was no discussion about salary. I would take the interviews and focus on making a networking connection should their budget not be inline with your comp expectations/needs. This is also your chance to ask them questions about their experience, type of work, etc to get a feel for different legal roles within a corporation.

I just switched jobs and every company recruiter i talked to had the salary range conversation as part of our first chat. I would call the HR person and ask them - it’s always possible that asking annoys them somehow but if it does they probably aren’t paying enough and you didn’t want to work there anyway.
