What type of law should I go into or what firm should I go to to do chaotic and high stakes work that will push me? I’m so mind numbingly bored where I am now and I hate what it’s making me become (a boring blob of a person). I’m weird and I survive and thrive in chaos. Plz help.

Family law or criminal law. You will never be bored.

PI defense? There’s always drama and depending on the carrier, there could definitely be high stakes in the form of million dollar policies. It’s a trade off though, because you’re bound to deal with wrongful death cases and those just stick with you. I still think about my first one.

Agree. I do civil lit now which I think is good for professional development but there is nothing like the excitement of crim or family

Transactional corporate. There's lots of "needthisrightnow!"

But also...know that what is boring and sane now could make for a great quality of life when you are a lil older and want to have kids or spend time with spouse.

I had my PHR back in early 2000, then made a career change to a paramedic (I know, right). I called SHRM and they said I'm eligible to test again even though I only currently have 1.5 yrs of HR.

I purchased the online study guide and it seems that HR has gone in a completely different direction - more operations related than employee relations etc.

Did anyone find this online training to be helpful? I test in July, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks - lauren

I have a job interview tomorrow with an employment litigation firm (under 10 attorneys). The two people interviewing me will be the office manager and an attorney (maybe partner? No info on that person on the website). I've never been interviewed by an office manager, so I'm thinking it's more of a screening session. Anyone have experience or advice on what that interview could look like?

Battling imposter syndrome during job search. I’m 2.5 years out and just started applying/interviewing for a new position. I have been at the same firm since 2L (different summer positions though) doing primarily plaintiff PI/WC. I’m interviewing at defense civil lit firms now who seem receptive but I feel wildly under qualified. Anyone else go through this? Advice?

I’m a senior associate at an insurance defense and coverage firm in Texas with about 15 attorneys. I’m bringing my first client in. What should I ask for, origination credit (if so, what %), a raise, what? I’m really at a loss here. From what I have heard, there is no standard arrangement at this firm, they negotiate with each associate/partner individually.

If you’re unhappy where you are, just know that there might be something better out there.
