Correct. You need to show flexibility or find a way
It’s a bad sign that you are not willing to budge
You gotta do what you have to if you’re serious about lateraling. I had to step away from my work laptop for an “emergency dental procedure” at one point when I was interviewing.
I think you have to remember who is doing the interviews - the attorneys at the other firm. I would not agree to interview someone after 5pm unless they were a really really standout candidate that we were recruiting hard. As much as it stinks, your scheduling problems don’t get to extend my workday.

Thanks! Not really crazy about this firm anyway
Pre-COVID, we had to go in person. I’d never been so health invested as when I wanted to leave my prior firm (as an associate.) It was “dentist” one day, “optometrist” a few days later, and “check-up” the next week.
I’m suddenly realizing a lot of my colleagues may have been interviewing…and here I was worried about the amount of health issues they were having…fml
Anyone hiring?
To be fair, I also go through periods where I really do just have a lot of doctors appointments!
You have to be flexible if you’re serious about making a move. If possible, step out and do the interview somewhere quiet near your office. I’ve had candidates go to hotels, a friend’s nearby office or apt, a cafe, local co-working space etc, to do a zoom interview during their lunch and go back to the office. After work and two weeks out is extremely limiting. Keep in mind they may be interviewing others too, so you could be delaying their process. Pre Covid would have been worse because you’d have to physically go to the firm to interview and block out a longer amount of time (typically a fake doctor’s appt) It sucks you’re out of sick days but that isn’t on the firm.
Lie and say you have a doctors appointment.
What happens if you show up an hour late one day? You get sent to the principal’s office or
something?
You should remind your bosses hat you are all adults.
Being yelled at? Is this kindergarten?
Your employer sounds horrible.

Yes. We had a mass exodus and ever since they've enforced an earlier start time and just have a tight leash on people. Probably to try and stop others from leaving.
Just disappear during lunch and take the interview from your car. Getting yelled at is very worth it if you then get to leave that place!
Just leave and do whatever the fuck you want. Make that interview happen. It’s weird and odd you’re looking for excuses to not make it happen when they treat you this way. GTFO.
Physio is your best excuse. It allows for repeat, unquestionable follow ups for a couple of weeks etc.
OP - I hope our responses have helped to inspire you to prioritize this (and any other) interview. COVID is still a thing and I can dm you pics of my friends' positive test strips to use as an excuse to be late. Those at home tests need to be verified WINK WINK
Say you need to go to the doctor. Even if you have to actually schedule a doctors appointment. Sounds like a terrible place to work. I would run so fast. I would not care about paying the copayment or for the doctor visit if that meant I could find a new job and leave that environment.

My old firm was the same way. I took some interviews from the common areas (tenant lounge) in the building during lunch. Another time, I left for lunch and took the interview at my friend’s apartment nearby.

If you can’t even take 1 hour off for lunch, definitely interview and get out of that toxic firm. No job is worth not having lunch.
You need to leave your current dinosaur firm
This is not normal in my many years of experience. Are you working directly with the firm, or thru a recruiter/agency? Do you have the ability to host a zoom from your car during lunch? I've had that work in circumstances like yours. They should respect your dedication. Or perhaps take a few hours off to attend intv before you get to ofc albeit later than usual. Find where both sides can be a bit flexible. If you're interested, you will also make the extra effort. Best of luck!!
Pre covid was the same - you find the time to interview or don’t do it. I had to awkwardly take off full half days multiple times for callbacks. And all this was in person so I had to bake in commute time to/from my office. It’s so so much more obvious and uncomfortable when everyone’s in the office and you’re clearly gone and non responsive for 4/5 hours. And there’s no way to sneakily respond to an emergency email between zoom emails when you’re interviewing in person.

Lol ya, this is a cakewalk in comparison
Was in a similar boat. Made up all sorts of excuses to get through three rounds of interviews- 2 in person and 1 remote when my firm has us in person 5 days/week
