My current employee is not very keen on sponsorship. Switching to tech seems the most viable option at the moment. Law schools in Toronto - I am currently working as a Senior Auditor at EY & finished my CPA modules in less than 12 months & successfully passed CFE, September 2021 (Fasttrack) while working full time. I am really interested in getting into a top law school here in Toronto but unfortunately I had a low CGPA (3.15) from undergrad due to some unfortunate incident, mostly impacted my grades. I strongly feel i can score 170+ on LSAT; question DO I EVEN STAND A CHANCE TO GET INTO ANY LAW SCHOOL

Any Canadians who lateraled to the US in 2021 have any advice on filing cross border taxes? I’ve been quoted an absurdly high rate by a a mid size accounting firm. Just want to file my taxes with someone competent to avoid any issues/high tax return given large signing bonus and jump in pay. Any referrals to good cross border accountants at a reasonable rate?

One partner is driving me insane. I CANNOT work with him. We are far enough in the case that it would take a lot of time for someone to take over for me but still early enough that the case will be going for another 2 years. Has anyone ever asked to be pulled from a case and is there a way to distance myself from this partner without hurting my reputation? 2nd year lit associate, partner is a jr partner in a different office but we cross staff a lot. TIA!

I don’t understand how, but it feels like big law partners don’t get that we are only in this for the money (and they are too). “Experience” only helps me if it translates to future value. And “future” value means something different than it did 30 years ago when most people wanted to make partner.

I’m considering a lateral move. New firm is offering a full bonus for pro-rated hours, which is nice but I doubt I’ll hit hours due to HR/admin onboarding work, ramp up, coming on in the middle of deals, etc. Any chance I can negotiate for a guaranteed bonus regardless of hours or is that unreasonable? I don’t want to annoy the new firm but I want to at least be made whole.

Mid-level associate in top 50 ALM. I’m exhausted. My client got a new contact, and I now dislike the client. I have had maybe three days off this entire year. I’m in a niche market, so it’ll be so difficult — if not impossible — to find another job. I should be happy: My firm loves me, they want me to be partner (so they say), manage a large book, well-paid, etc. Anyone else going through the emotions? How are you getting through it?
