What was the most disturbing thing a student ever told you or you overheard?

I’ve heard it all from sexual assault to physical abuse to drugs to suicide ideation. All of which sadden and anger me. However, the most disturbing thing that has ever come out of a student’s mouth in my presence was a student who was informing a group of boys how to avoid getting an STD. He told them all they needed to do was rinse their d*ck off in the sink after sex. We had an impromptu crash course in safe sex that day. The lesson plan could wait.

Not me, but my wife is a school counselor and she's had to go through therapy when counseling elementary school kids because a lot of them go into detail about their home lives, and there's very little she can do besides reporting to CPS when necessary. I don't know any details for ethical reasons, but I know domestic violence is a big concern.

Well a girl told me about her stepfather raping her over a period of time. She’s 12. So that’s pretty bad.

Reported last year. She just told ME about it the other day.

I had a student once tell me nonchalantly that sometimes he would imagine what it would feel like to kill someone. Talk about goosebumps! I did speak with admin and we pulled his parents in, but I don't know if they ever ended up doing anything about it. With all the school shootings nowadays, they probably would have taken it more seriously if it happened today, but back then, it was sort of brushed under the rug.

This one's very recent. A student of mine said she never wanted to leave school because she's not safe in their own house. I don't even know what she meant by that.

A student was surprised when I was talking about the dangers of meth use. She responded “but crank is good for you!”

Student had been repeatedly sodomized for years, is now in diapers in HS and for the rest of his life. Mom let it happen and now shows up for yearly meetings expecting the school to rehab this poor kid. I will never forget it.

That is beyond disturbing!! Mom should lose custody & hopefully whoever did this to him is rotting in prison.

They think Joe Biden is the best president we've ever had...

Once overheard a student talking to his friend about how he burned his dog's tail with a magnifying glass in their back yard and he was laughing while telling the story. Think next-door neighbor kid from Toy Story. So disturbing.

Girl who was 10 years old and was prostituted for years by her mom to support her mom’s meth habit. It was no wonder the girl also had substance abuse problems in high school… 😢

In terms of switching organizations, how often is okay?
I have total 5.9 years of experience in total and current company is my 4th. It goes as below -
1st company - 2 years 5 months
2nd - 1 year
3rd - 1 year
4th - 1 year 3 months (current)
Thinking of switching now. Will this have any negative impression on my overall resume?

Is there an easy/efficient way to figure out how much you've contributed to vs earned in your Roth accounts? I started contributing >20 years ago to my employer's Roth 401k and have rolled it over to a Roth IRA and moved it between multiple custodians, e.g. Fidelity, Vanguard, UBS, Personal Capital, etc. It is unclear to me how much I contributed vs how much I earned by investing it.

The purpose of doing this is I want to use $10K of it, but want to prove that the $10K is from my contribution.
