Honest question, how do you even calculate gains given there are bi-weekly transactions?
My portfolio was at 145k at the start of the years and is at 195k at the end of year. Which includes 30k in returns and 22k in transactions.

195 - (145+22) = 28

20% in a total stock market fund. How do you get your 401k into individual stocks? Aren’t you confined to just mutual funds offered in your employers plan?
Accenture has a self directed brokerage account. No options or precious metals, but you can buy individual stocks.
What was the fund that gave 42%? That’s insane!!!

these are people who have been ITCHING to flex their gains.
16% in 401k. Are people including their contributions in calculating these 40%+ returns? Seems high for a retirement account - possible for smart but risky brokerages.
My 401k with Accenture let me pick the stocks. I left there in 2019 so no contributions for all of 2020. I had a 20% return on the stocks I chose before I left. And yes, I know I should roll it over into my new 401k account.

I had a bad bad year - lost 17% in stupid decisions and mistakes that I will kick myself for the rest of my life. To all who look at these posts and think it’s easy to make money, just be careful and strategize and execute with discipline. While there are people making lots of cash, there also are people losing and you don’t want to be one of those!
I lost 17% in stocks. I did what you said too in trying to time 401k but didn’t lose there.
