First week back was kind of a wash, even week two. A lot of catching up. For my first child it took more than a month to feel up to speed and ready to go. But it was straight back to work after 3 months. Second child my company offered an ease back program (1st week work 1 day, 2nd week work two days...and so on). This was amazing and helped me ease back and helped my family ease into a new routine. This gradual approach also made the transition back to work more seamless but it also took longer - but this was expected.
OP That’s rough. I’m sorry they put you in that position. I’m terms of the person talking poorly about you - that is a scathing reflection of that person and their (lack of) managerial skills - not you. That was irresponsible of them to put so much on you 2 days back after mat leave.
With my first, I feel like it took me a few months to feel totally back on my game. That new mom brain fog is real. When I went back I was also reporting to a new manager that was hired while I was on leave, so the learning curve of figuring out how to work best under a very different management style than I was used to didn’t help. But my first week was fine, and mostly consisted of being brought up to speed on everything that was going on for my brand. I’m sorry that you’ve had to deal with a return situation that clearly is not setting you up for success. Give yourself some grace. I feel like your colleague who was overseeing your work speaking poorly of you and your work is more of a reflection of who they are vs who you are and what you are capable of, and hopefully the rest of your team will recognize that, especially if you have been there for a while prior to going out on leave and are working with people who know what you can do/type of teammate you are. Congrats on your baby and sending lots of positive vibes that your transition back into things gets easier and smoother.
Thank you!!
