I’m convinced that “implementations” are more challenging than “strategy” consulting. Having done both, the nuances associated with having to figure out every last detail in implementations makes the work significantly more challenging than painting high-level strategy in what is often broad brushstrokes filled with assumptions.
135k base and I would like to buy a Porsche. I have 20k in student loans and no other debt. Go for it? I'm not even into cars but every time I’m dashing through the Target parking lot and see one, it’s like love at first sight😍. That is my only justification 😂
Just got a huge offer from a start up! 300k base. I heard RECESSION starts in July 2022, does it make sense to keep my 150 K job at Accenture and reject the offer? Don’t want to risk getting fired from start up. Please share some advice. I heard it on the news today, Nasdaq is at a 14 year low
MBA hires, do you find it difficult to work with managers and partners who are undergrad hires promoted through? Why?
My wife is giving birth in a few months to our first child. Should I take the full 16 weeks? Four months seems like an extremely long time. What about utilization and bonus? Getting replaced in projects and initiatives?
Let's inject a little reality into the conversation. I'm 25. $82k salary. Net worth: -$15K But I'm working on it.
A lot of convo on here stems around jumping around for salary. What is something that would inspire you to stay at your firm outside of comp?
For those in this category - how did you reach $1,000,000 net worth...combination of stocks, side hustles, jobs etc.
I am noticing that McKinsey is increasingly recruiting at non-elite schools (very roughly speaking not top 15 schools). At my old undergrad, 5 years ago the most competitive firm to show up was EY. This year McKinsey took 4 non-internship full hires. Why is McKinsey going “down market” for recruiting? Are elite school kids losing interest in consulting so McK has to cast a wider net? Or is McK seeking a wider pool for other reasons? I advise undergrads on consulting so want to be best informed.
Has anyone gone from making 120k per year to 160/180k ? How did it feel and was it a huge life improvement and did u finally feel like everything your invested in your work life paid off? I’m at 120k rn and for the number of hours I’ve put in and the complete lack of savings I have living in a hcol city I’m hoping that my next salary will ameliorate my money worries . I don’t think after all I’ve done (school/work) I should feel underpaid and broke but I do
Is it ok to get personal in salary negotiations? For example, let the recruiter know that I’m a single parent supporting three young kids and two retired parents and I really need more money.
Which T2 has the best culture in the pandemic environment. Why? What works well? Deloitte, Strategy& (PwC), LEK, Oliver Wyman, EY-Parthenon, Accenture, Kearney
Why don't more (white collar) Americans take breaks in-between jobs? Like a month or two summer break. Is this mindset that you need to work all the time a vestige from back when people would work at the same company for 40 years until they die?
Hi Guys. Need help evaluating two offers: 1. McKinsey - Associate in Risk Consulting - $165K base/30K sign-on. NYC/Chicago. 2. Facebook - Program Manager in Security and Privacy - $160K base/$100K RSUs over 4 years/$20K sign-on. Bay Area I have 6 YOE at Deloitte in Cyber since graduating college. Has always been a desire to work at McK but don’t plan to stay in Consulting long term. Was all set to join McK until this offer came along. Any advice on what factors I need to consider?
If you could go back and change one thing about your 20’s, what would it be and how do you think it would affect your life now?
Do you guys feel a sense of belonging at your workplace? Maybe it’s just me, but I grew up in a lower middle class family, went to a tier 2 school, didn’t get an mba. I’m now a Partner and make $500k+
Trying to assess if an mba is worth it (25 year old male). I am a VP making $200 K in pharma transaction advisory considering moving to IB. Worth the two year hold on my career and $400 K in lost salary? It’s terrifying to go back into debt...
After 3 years in consulting, this really resonates and is why I’m leaving this industry. We get too focused on the most minuscule details, on what competitors are doing, on what a market’s CAGR is. So many of my clients just didn’t have a good product that customers loved. https://youtu.be/Y6P8qdanszw

Decided 2017 will be my last year in consulting. Going to go open a bar in the mountains and experience life. FB will be the only thing I'll miss.
Who still buys Amex plat since it’s no longer covered by EY? If frequent traveler has the benefit been their to cover the expense on your own?
Did someone get thrown under a massive bus?
Short week - reading Fishbowl #wfh
Anyone else thinks that the quality of talent coming in has dropped down significantly in terms of raw horse power and willingness to put in time and effort?
Just "wolf whistled" instead of saying my name on a client call. My young female client took it as a compliment.
Bonus talk today -$500 raise, $150 bonus I cannot make this shit up. Started in late July And was told by the recruiter before I signed paperwork that I should expect a min of 3.5% raise and 2K bonus
I bet the creator is an ex-consultant
