I was making $190k before I finally purchased my own luxury watch. Ended up spending $6,300 on a Chopard XPS 1860. I didn't have any student loans though, which I imagine makes things a whole different ballgame for justification of expenses like this

like

Bought my first luxury watch at 3.) for $2,500 after I had already saved enough for a 6 month safety net. Doubled my take home pay (5.) by switching to investment banking so bought a $4,500 watch to celebrate. Saving up to buy a $10,000 watch now, but am making sure to max out my 401(k) before even thinking about setting aside money for the watch.

It’s quite strange, I’m at 270 and still can’t get comfortable, even though I love watches. I think it may be a product of how I came up more than anything else. So instead I sadly wear nothing on my wrist.

like

Same. I love watches but I have so much trouble pulling the trigger. Doesn’t matter how much I make.

like

I bought my first Rolex at 80k. It’s just how you manage your finances.

like

Agreed, my finances are well in check since day 1 granted I didn’t have any student loans or much bills since was living at home. Splurged while at 70k on the rolly. Swiping that card didn’t feel comfortable haha but got over it and glad I did it

like

I’m at $500k and still not comfortable with it. I wear an Apple Watch lol.

like

I respect the artistry and would love to get one someday. There are other financial goals I’d like to meet first though.

I bought my 40mm ceramic date sub at 85k. But I have been saving little by little for 3 years and paid cash, no debt/financing. Had I not been saving for it, I probably would not have bought it. Im at 120k, setting aside funds to buy the SS DJ36 blue dial, fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet.

like

Gorgeous watch, have you been into an AD to try one?

4 - bought at $2k watch 5 - bought at $5k watch 6 - bought at $25k watch

Good way to see it

Bought my ceramic Daytona when I was making 90k, now I’m around 110 and am looking at a root beer. I’m also single with no debt or kids though

like

Just save money. I bought both my Speedmaster, 114270 and 16570 at $90k. Wife and I have our house savings, and I put money away for watches. Be responsible but enjoy your life.

like

I just bought a Grand Seiko and also just broke 100k. I’d say go for it 😁

My first was a used Rolex at around $3k back in the day. My first Patek was $75. Now I’m in the $100k+ range. Anything north of that, for me, it’s funny money / you gotta be willing to lose most of it. I started collecting when I was making about $120k per year.

like

Actually my first purchase with my own money was a used Breitling in college. Salary level $5k for summer jobs? I don’t remember. I didn’t like it after a few months and sold it. My first watches were Movados and Swatches gifted to me as a kid. But ya, my first “real” watch after getting a “real” job was a Rolex.

I was at $0 but crypto trading when I bought my first rolex 🙃

Just hit mid range of Band 4. Going to get a new blue Aqua Terra 41mm as my one and only nice watch, though I’m getting several bands. I will wear it every day. It’s rugged.

like

Patek Calatrava when I got promoted to principal. Bought it used for about $16K and I was making $250K. Love it but mostly wear my Apple Watch.

Probably depends more on net worth/savings. I bought my first luxury watch at 150K+ income to answer the question. FYI you should be able to get the aqua terra close to $4500 New with some negotiations

like

#5 for me You may want to consider adding a few more, there is a lot of variability in how financially stable you can be after $150k. perhaps 6. $200k 7. $300k+

like

Also, what firm is paying you $100k to be an SC, it may be time to transfer.

like

Currently make more than $100k as an SC

like

5 for me.

FYI, you can probably get an Aqua Terra for 20% off MRSP from an AD, new. Should make it roughly $4,500. I got 24% off a Seamaster Diver from an AD.

like

I got a SMP300 for 25% off but that was pre-covid. I don’t know what the deal is now a days but I def wouldn’t pay full price for any Omega, hell anything that isn’t a Rolex or above

I bought my first rolex when i broke 100k. Had been saving up but wasnt quite there yet. However, I unexpectedly got the call for my grail watch and knew I had to do it

like

I was going to do the same. Unfortunately by the time I broke 100k Rolexes were no longer available. Wish I got rich like 5-10 years earlier (aka was born earlier)

#6 - was making around $250k when I bought a Panerai for $6k after a decent year-end bonus that year.

My firm was one of the firms that gave covid bonuses but did not specify whether everyone was getting it. I didn’t make my hours this year because I was on maternity leave and a bunch of my cases ended 1-2 months before I went out so I had lower hours before I started my leave. I couldn’t make up for those lost hours when I was back since I was working from home with an infant because of covid. I didn’t get the covid bonus, which in my mind is ironic considering the circumstances. (Cont.)
