Realizing that they didn’t actually mean it when they bloviated about how they’re willing to put their lives on the line to protect people.
I’ll say this here because we’re vets, and a lot of us are combat veterans, so this group is the one group that will probably get it. Cops are all kinds of people, some good, some bad, some brave, some cowardly, just like any other group of people. Those BORTAC agents who saddled up and got it done put their money where their mouths were and made entry to a room where they knew someone with a rifle was waiting for them, and they took rounds when they breached that door, and they went anyway. They made the call that it was worth maybe getting shot if it meant maybe saving a kid. That’s the right call. That’s the call anyone wearing a badge is expected to make. It’s literally the SOP, they have standing orders to do it.
The problem here is cop culture. Any cop who stands outside a building listening to children being hunted down and shot, and doesn’t go in after the shooter, doesn’t deserve to wear the badge. If you won’t risk your life for an elementary school full of little kids you won’t risk your life for anything. But these cops won’t be punished. The police unions will protect them. Other cops might shun them, but there will be no court martial for cowardice in the face. Cops are more interested in protecting cops than holding their own accountable. They’ll probably stay cops, or at worst be forced to retire. Look how hard it’s been to hold Scot Peterson accountable for his cowardice, and that’s with everyone really trying. If there were actually consequences when cops are discovered to be cowards, maybe the ones who are cowards would quit. But there aren’t. So they strap on their guns and bully little kids and impress girls in bars with their badges, and then they hide when the shooting starts.
Very well said. This is the exact reason I hate the militarization of police. It makes them look and act tougher than they are and unfortunate instances like this show the institutional and cultural differences between local police groups and the military.

There were kids calling 911 begging for help an hour into the shooting, while cops hid outside
Insane.
Sitting there darting their mitts til border patrol came and took charge it seems like
Seems like a lot of dropped balls. Unlocked doors, resource officers not engaged, slow response, etc. There will be a lot to sort through.
BORTAC likely way better trained for such scenario.
Came across this gem yesterday. Pretty much sums it up.
Same problem as Columbine. The SOP for school shootings was supposed to have changed since then.
