What work is out there for a preschool teacher who's done teaching? I've tried moving schools, I've tried working for non-profit and for-profit centers and I just can't find anywhere that feels authentic. I always feel like teaching and working with my students comes second to completing paperwork, appeasing parents, going to meetings, and tracking behavior. Where do I go from here?

You just described a day and the life of a teacher! Let me know when you find a job that doesn’t match this description! Ha!

You probably should move into the public school system and get paid a little more for doing the exact same thing. Best of luck!

I wonder if you could offer consulting for parents who are homeschooling? Seems like some might wonder if they are “doing it right.”

There is no authenticity anymore dear. Every school and district is trying to copy the other, so there's no originality anymore.

Do you work for the Head Start program?

What about opening a day care? It’s certainly in demand and you’d get clients given your experience and credentials.

Look for a homeschooling group in your area. Some families pay experienced teachers to provide small group learning experiences to their children. In NH, there is a company called Prenda that does this. It looks very rewarding! Also, consider working a a private Nanny. You have the joy of working with kids and sometimes you can make a lot of money, plus bonuses like traveling with the family and/or brining your own child with you. (I did this when my kids were little. It was fantastic.)
If you have a specific talent, like playing an instrument or puppetry, consider becoming a children’s entertainer. Our school hires some pretty awesome people who come
And perform for the kids as in-house “field trips”. They get paid A LOT to put on these shows and the kids love it. Try applying at your local children’s museums, too. You can continue to work with kids in a different capacity. Good luck!

Mid-level here. Has anyone gotten their firm to approve their doing work at a deep discount and, if so, what strategies did you use? A potential client approached me directly about a small matter (~20 to 30 hr amicus brief). The potential client (gov’t) pays a standard rate ~40% lower than mine, but I want to take on the project because it would be a good professional opportunity (e.g., high profile case & client) and of course the lower rate won’t affect my comp directly. 🤷‍♀️ All advice welcome!

First year here. I’ve been getting good feedback but I’m struggling with so much work-related anxiety (leading to pretty frequent work-related nightmares). In litigation, if that matters.

Hey Fishes,

Joined LTI recently in P3 band. However not allocated any project. Got a call from the resource management team to relocate, which I rejected upfront as I was promised a role in the location I am posted. It has been over 2 weeks since I am in bench. What shall be the next steps, shall I wait for some days or start looking for other jobs as getting a project looks difficult as there are minimalist responses.
