Help with beginning of the year screenings and then start taking kids pronto! Don’t take weeks for paperwork/scheduling etc.
Oh I understand, I’m a sped teacher and I rely on everyone else’s schedules too. But I still do inclusion the first few days and then start pull-outs by about day 3.
I’m not sure what “ENL” means exactly, but wouldn’t you know which kids you were taking once the screenings were done?
Let teachers know which ELA students are in their classes and what their level is along with what they can expect based on the student level. If you can share this out at the beginning, then teachers can provide support.

Yes I totally agree it takes a lot of time for screenings and this would help tremendously. Also assist ELA teachers with paperwork every now and then. We are all in this together so I say lend a helping hand especially to new teachers.
If the teacher uses an online classroom like google classroom make sure you join as a co teacher to know what’s going on.

I would really like a quick 5-10 minute meeting with the ELA teacher all of the teachers who will have that student to get us on the same page and help us know what works and what does not.
The handouts and data on the student is too “copy/paste” to have relevance. I cannot keep good track of all of the ELA and SPED students I have in class to be able to handle things at a level where I can feel effective.
I would like to have this meeting at least twice during the year.
If you hand me paperwork and walk away, it feels like you are asking me to do essentially the same in the classroom. It feels like no one cares about the student and we are just pushing paper and meeting legal requirements but not really trying to educate the student.
Use your first planning meeting to ask the teachers what they need support with individually. Not every teacher is going to give you the same responses you see on here, so you likely won't have any idea how to best support the ones you work with until you hear it from them.
Then actually support them in the areas they identify and follow up consistently.
I ended up planning the first 6 weeks of lesson plans for the teachers. We have 3 new programs for ELA this year and want to make sure the teachers have time to understand the program I stead of doing the nitty-gritty work that comes at the beginning of the year!
