What would make you take a chance on someone for a role? I have a strong reputation within my network, but I'm trying to get staffed in an area outside it. (From SAP to digital native technologies)

I've had lots of success working on engagements in all sorts of different areas outside my practice, in fact, the majority has been outside my practice. What I've found is that it comes down to mostly relationship skills, to boldly reach out to people that are doing things you're interested in, and part technical skill, in that you should know the new area well enough to have a high level conversation about it. After that, it's really just a BS session with as many targets as you can find. Keep at it and you'll get what you want. 👍🏼

Do any other careers besides strategy consulting let you explore many industries, enabling you to gain a wide range of experience so that you can have a better idea of what you want to do in the future? I don’t particularly like consulting (at least in my current role) but gaining broad exposure is very important to me, and I can’t find any alternatives to consulting that provide similar breadth.

hey all, i’m 3 years into my career. some decent work produced, some awards (mostly student). after getting laid off last fall and many many applications and emails sent, I’ve decided to spend time and money on a creative PR stunt to get my dream agencies’ attention. I’ve decided I don’t want to settle any longer, and I’m ready to make the jump to the elite. so people that have made it to their dream agencies: when did it happen for you, what made it happen, and was it everything you hoped for?
