However I have recently found out I am being paid the same as an apprentice on my team, I usually do at 3 x the work he does whilst also doing my Cert CII. If I was bad at audit and didn’t enjoy the work at all but love industry due to the technical accounting aspect would I enjoy accounting advisory? Been at my company for almost a year now and the tasks are mind numbing and repetitive and I do not feel like I’m learning anything. I love the people and the culture of the company but am worried about career advancement. I do not handle stress that well and value work-life balance, but feel as if I have too much currently.

Looking for negotiation advice.

Received an offer with 150k base and 25k bonus. Had a negotiation call where I requested a 10-15% base bump for merit/BATNA reasons. They were receptive.

Follow up call they provided a 13% base increase + an unexpected 41% bonus decrease.

Is this common practice? Any thoughts on countering this? Any specific language you would use?

I realize I never accounted for this scenario and that's on me! Hoping for advice on how best to move forward.

I left biglaw after 3 years to a mid-size firm. Took a pay cut but the hours, people, culture and work were so much better I never thought twice about the salary or “prestige.” Ultimately I started 2 very small firms. I am not rich by biglaw standards but I have a very comfortable life and put my kids through college with no debt. 35 years after leaving big law, people are still impressed when I say I started there. I feel like I still had the benefits of the connection w/o the suffering.
