What would you do about a manager that is constantly on your back but never listens to your replies? I can't get a word in edgewise about what's actually going on with the accounts and how that's affecting results. It's just bottom line all the way, with some sprinkling of advice that is never relevant to the situation.

Here’s some advice that might not be relevant to the situation 😂

Think about how you’re framing your conversations - are you being objective with examples, or does it come across like you’re making excuses or being unclear to hide lack of knowledge? Your manager cares about the bottom line clearly so make sure your updates are shared in a way that makes the bottom line impact clear. Revenue risks and revenue opportunities.

Frame your conversations so your manager knows where they stand and what you need input on. E.g. Start with a high level summary of the state of an account and then go into specific examples that evidence your narrative. Be specific about what you want help with, or you’re going to be given advice you’re not after.

If you’re really struggling with their approach, take control - write a briefing note & share in advance of your 1-2-1 - which has discussion points outlined in advance so they know where you want them to contribute & what you need help with. Frame everything in the context of how it’ll impact the bottom line - speak their language.

I'm starting to feel more and more like the instructions I'm getting and what the target market will actually respond to aren't matching up. Beginning to get frustrated and I feel like it's undermining my position as well.

Hi question: let’s say you have a client who kicked his ex gf’s leg rather than the door and left bruising. UK charge is assault by beating; is this considered “serious bodily harm” by UK standards ?

Have you ever received an email from a client that seemed outrageously long? I was curious how much time they spent on this email so I threw it into Google Docs to discover this email is 27 pages and 3,500 words long...I mean kudos to you dude, but I’m still not responding until tomorrow 😇

How to get over a mistake you made at work? It didn’t end up being terrible because it was caught in time but could have been pretty bad and now the partner, senior associates and opposing counsel all saw you made this mistake (opposing client corrected it).

A senior partner wrote off a significant amount of my time - due to his write-offs as well as those of another partner, approximately 40% of my 2021 billable hours have been erased. As a result, I will most likely not be eligible for a bonus in 2022. Do I address this with the managing partner of my office? With the partner who wrote off most of my time? Or do I stay silent to preserve what is, on the surface, a good working relationship, as this person could one day serve as a reference for me?

Hi everyone! I’m a Product Designer currently in their first design position at a start-up company. I haven’t done this before as this is my first job, but as of lately I’ve been feeling really unmotivated and stagnant in my role. I’ve been working in the same role for 1 year and 6 months now. I want to get promoted and earn a higher wage, but I feel really intimidated and normally end up downplaying myself and asking for less in conversations. Any advice around how I can talk to my boss?

So embarrassed. I literally had one job to do today which was to schedule a client and give and take her paperwork when she came in. Totally called her by the wrong name today AND gave her the wrong paperwork. She was really nice about it but I feel like my boss was disappointed and I'm disappointed in myself. I don't want her to think I won't be able to keep clients straight when I start doing supervised sessions.

Okay so I am quitting my job because of my supervisor.

Do I:
A) just leave and say it’s due to career progression
B) Leave but tell them in a diplomatic way it’s not the company or for career progression it is because I cannot work with him as he has no leadership or management skills. ( without going into details)
C) tell them everything ( I find this option petty especially if there is no outcome (I am definitely leaving)
If you think there is another option -lmk

I have a boss from hell. She’s the GM of my hotel and she is a mean girl that never grew out of highschool. She loves gossip. I want to stand up but I’ve seen her retaliate on people who have tried to. Help.

I'm 9 weeks in my current SDR position, been doing 100 dials a day and got 2 books 1 occur so far.

Is it ok to be short and direct in an email? Do you ever do that with colleagues, admin, or parents? Or do you always take the time to add niceties like “I hope you’re well,” and “I’m sorry to reach out about this again” and “thank you so much for your perspective! I really appreciate it!” — before just stating your stance, reiterating what you already said, or asking a question?

Just had an interview with the CEO of this brand (it was my 4th interview for this role). For some reason, I got really nervous and I think it got the best of me. I felt like I rambled and sounded really stupid a few times because I couldn't find my words... I don't usually get this nervous so IDK why that happened. Do I address any of that in the follow-up email or would that just make it worse? Any thoughts on how to help address it or make it better via a follow up email?
