When creatives and production collaborate together at the time of the brief and creatives are not pompous assholes
Copywriter 1 - producers arenāt your personal concierge. If you think that then Iām sure producers rate your copy on a one to two star rating
Looking ahead, pre-planning, and having a good bank of resources and contacts stashed away. When things are slow I pre-research sourcing so that I can refer to it on a tight deadline and it appears as though Iāve been extra creative in a tight spot.
Patience to roll with nonsense from account and creative. Attention to detail. The ability to be present on projects, even while juggling several projects at once. Level-headedness when productions get nutty. The ability to rein in post-production creep.
Good producers can be creative too. Thatās not to say their ideas are great or have to be honored, but they start a conversation that can lead to good/great. And, good producers sweat the details so that the creative process is not interrupted. They find solutions and solve problems that in many instances, the creatives never know about
A lengthy list of contacts. The ability to call in a favor or two. And good taste in restaurants/hotels.
Been at this for under a year, but I feel like the most important quality in a producer is the ability to understand creative, what it takes to execute the concept, and how to bring people together to make it happen. To me, that doesn't just mean picking good vendors, but also understanding how to get the best out of bad ones.
Also - attention to detail.
EVP1 - I second the sentiment of collaborating at the start of the brief. Iāve worked plenty of places where I donāt even know a project is happening until the day before (or after!!!) the first client presentation. The work severely suffers. But weāve made some magic happen with limited time and budget when we come together early
Diffusing a situation, not amplifying. āNoā shouldnāt be the first answer
I think of myself as Mr. Wolf. I solve problems.
Knowing how to produce. Knowing when to step in and when to step out
Too many for a short post: Anticipation, preparation, filmmaking skills, a passion for the work, calm in the eye of the storm, knowledge of resources, tapped into culture. 24/7 attitude. Left brain , right brain capabilities. Just a start.

Going to add that it's extremely important to keep your composure and not add stress to an already stressful environment.

Honoring signed overages.
As a former Producer, I think itās about understanding feasibility and also having the ability to work with everyone.
