What’re examples of appropriate health goals? The tired “get abs” isn’t really motivating for me

I had a really nasty back injury so I had to lose weight

Better sex life

Living longer for my kids and being able to play with them outside and not be tired

like

Feel good, less aches and pains, tone up

like

For me my back is all broken so if I don't stay fit I have a really bad time.

Alternatively, is there something you want to do requiring fitness - hike the Inca Trail, go for a long bike ride, something like that? Set doing that in x time as your goal and exercise to be able to do it

like

Get jacked AF

likesmart

Get stronger by lifting x more than you can now
Lose x inches
Reduce body fat by x%
Reduce time to walk/run a mile
For me, the change in energy level helps me stay motivated.

like

Be able to get off the toilet independently when I’m 80+

Feel more at ease in my own skin

Have more energy and physical ease in my daily life

Finally, having strength goals is a real tangible thing I use to assess my progress. If I did 40lb dumbbell RDLs last week for 3 sets of 8, can I do 3 sets of 9 this week? By tracking my progress (I use the strong app) I can use that to stay motivated and know that the results will come because I keep pushing myself. It’s just you vs. you.

It helps a lot of people to have a “why”. Losing weight or lower body fat isn’t as motivating as “wear this shirt I used to love again” or “feel comfortable at the beach in the summer”.

Personally, feeling physically good and having more confidence in my body are motivating for me. Noticing how my back, hips, glutes, etc. feel when I’m eating healthy and active versus sedentary help to keep me on track. Random pain does not have to be part of aging.

like

Pain-free movement, restful sleep, low blood glucose.

like

Track every bite and meet daily carb/sugar goals works for me. The long term goals will naturally happen when daily goals are met for 90 days +

It’s good to have goals that continuously build on each other. “Get stronger” is super loose and easy to just check off the list, but when you make a goal like “bench press X weight X times” and just build on that every time you reach it you’ll have an easier time staying consistent.

Exercise to keep your heart healthy! ❤️💗💖 As my heart rate improved, everything else improved (lost 20 lbs in 6 months, in great shape, could do longer hikes without getting out of breath)

In need of some advice… feeling very discouraged. I’m no. 2 in charge and my function and salary is that of a VP (I work for a brick and mortar ASC/physician practice, as well as a telemedicine company). However, we are a small org and don’t use titles like that. I’m trying to move forward and expand into larger healthcare organizations, however I feel I’m being rejected before my resume is even reviewed because of my job title. Any recommendations? Not willing to take a step back

That feeling when you get an offer for a full time job… but:
1) they change it from W-2 to 1099
2) they won’t provide a job description
3) they don’t offer health insurance
4) BYO hardware and software

Recently debating with a friend that financial data is more important (hence in practice more cybersecurity and privacy considerations around it) than medical data. I argued that although in theory it would make more sense that people would care more about their medical data; however, in practice an individual is less likely to care if anyone knows he/she had Covid, or that he/she is genetically more likely to like salt, etc...<continues below>

In an auto accident trial, can you inform the jury in any way that the at-fault driver had insurance? I have a hard time believing a jury would award 7-figure damages if they thought the little old lady defendant had to personally pay. I’m just starting to do PI on the side by myself at my firm, so this is probably a very dumb and obvious question.

Anyone else get frustrated when a manager ‘thinks’ they’re being helpful by actively telling you that a lot of the stuff you do to help manage your ADHD is unnecessary and there’s a better way to do it? Hi,

I am a qualitative primary researcher with 3 years of experience on agency side. Given thr hectic work culture of agencies, I've already reached burnout and am seeking a change in my career path.

Can anyone recommend a career path that can offer some level of work life balance?

Is UI/UX research a good path to explore?

Has anyone ever had enough of HR and just wanted to do something else? I got sick of the hypocrisy between what HQ publicly says and what they actually do. I switched to consulting, I really miss helping people find and grow in great jobs but I was done being the scapegoat for people not getting their promotions or increments or internal movements.

How do you guys, especially the senior ones, handle this?

(This isn't about my current employer, who has proved to be quite ethical actually)
