Low annual fees??? You want NO annual fees or you've gotten the wrong card.
Even if the fees are worth it today. I would avoid fees with your first card. The first card should never get canceled, as the average credit length would always be diminished if you canceled your oldest card. As you get better credit, better cards will be available. I personally did a secured credit card at a local credit union and then Amex everyday blue. My sister started with Discover Student It. In retrospect, I should have gone with the Discover It.
I've lived without credit cards for 15 years. Don't fall for the hype.
Not only that! They take away risk. Listen to the guy from Catch Me If You Can on this topic. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GrXxg3O8tzY
Straight to AMEX Centurion
Discover
If you're just getting started with credit cards / churning, I'd probably recommend you start with the Chase Freedom Unlimited or the Chase Freedom. They have relatively good sign up bonuses for starter cards ($200 reward for $500 spend within the first 3 months), and they will allow you to build into the "Chase Trifecta" system. Eventually, you can get either the Chase Sapphire Preferred ($95 annual fee) or the Chase Sapphire Reserve ($550 annual fee), which will allow you to pool all your points together for travel / cash back. Throughout all my time researching credit cards, Chase's system seems to be the best and most simple at this time, despite that American Express has been improving over the last couple of years.
All discover cards have no foreign transaction fees!
Chase freedom unlimited
If you're ambitious and want to get into the manfuctured spending points games. I would suggest you start off with the Chase Sapphire Preferred card.
For no foreign tx. fee, I would recommend BOFA travel reward card, it has 250 sign-up bonus and no annual fees. Otherwise chase freedom is my favorite.
I think my first card was the Amex Platinum. True story. I got rejected like 4 times in a row by other cards, we're talking like the Gap credit card, cause I applied for the first time when I was around 30.
Same here. My first was the Chase sapphire reserve. I was a student and had no credit history, so was rejected from several banks for even the shittiest cards. Lucked out with an awesome banker who helped me get the CSR and it instantly built up my credit score
Discover!!!
Discover solely because it’s easy to be approved. If you want cash back, it’s Citi double cash back. If you want travel, capital one venture cards are good too
Get one with Visa or MasterCard if you travel internationally (not AMEX/Discover). ChaseFreedom is good in the NE Coast area. CapitalOne Quicksilver is very good- that’s MasterCard. Discover is good- but sometimes in international travels you may find places that accept it less since it isn’t VISA/MasterCard.
Thanks so much to everybody who took some time to leave a recommendation, really appreciate it 😊
