What’s a good gift to show my appreciation to the MDs that are closely supporting & mentoring me for promo to L4?
Scotch ? I don’t drink - do you have recommendations on brand or budget to consider?

You can get a great bottle of Scotch for much less than a Montblanc pen... But I might suggest a nice whiskey set (decanter & glasses). Saves you picking an unpopular whiskey and lasts longer.

Got any recommendations for whiskey decanter sets? I see stuff in all ranges - don’t have a clue how much people spend on it.

If you know they’re a scotch or bourbon fan, I don’t see anything wrong with it. Far simpler and on point than other things suggested that many men don’t use. Also, the gift is just a token and most people would appreciate the thought, so don’t spin your wheels too much. Write a nice thoughtful card to go with it and you’re set.

I’m a bourbon person. Blanton’s, if you can find it. You might find it online but it will be resale. Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is far easier to find and is good. One of my bottles is from a mentee and I think of him fondly every time I sip it.

That’s a good one and no, that’s not cheap.

It’s performance season. I was told putting a paragraph in performance achievement about what they have done to support you, be “truly human”, player-coach, etc. is much appreciated

I may be in the minority but I think booze as a gift is cliche and a little lazy. Besides, if your MD enjoys scotch, they probably enjoy the stuff that’s much more expensive than what you’re willing to shell out.

What about something a little more professional? Maybe an embossed Circa leather notebook (from Levenger) and a Montblanc Pen? Or a travel wallet/passport holder from Tumi (or Montblanc) embossed with their initials? Shows more thought and they’ll always think of you when they use it.

Find a 25 - 30 yr old scotch if you want to go the route

Anyone else hate when people overuse the word “right?” when they speak? - - that’s part of the being a consultant, right, you need to look and sound the part, right, or you won’t be taken serious right.

In need of advice. I am wrapping up my masters in accounting while I am working in consulting; however, I am interested in tax. I want to transfer when I finish in May but seems like all the openings posted in ToD seems to be for tax seniors and above. I have pretty strong connections with tax PPMDs but not in my local office (not looking to move). Would it make more sense for me to leave Deloitte for an associate level tax position or take my chances at an internal transfer to tax senior?

Any F🐠 here based in LA or SoCal? 30’s M, looking for a genuine connection.

Time to give back:
Asked about Alan David vs Michael Andrews vs Enzo Custom a while back. Went to consultations and ordered one full suite and one casual separate pairs.
Alan David: traditional, no BS, very professional 10/10
Michael Andrews: slightly less value for money, same fabrics, outsourced bespoke, light BS due to flashy showroom 8/10
Enzo Custom: stylish and fashion-forward, good value, in-between M2M and bespoke, flashy in a good way 9/10
(Subjective and based on personal experience.)

Hi all,

Is Rent agreement/Rent receipts not required to claim HRA in Bofa?
Today i had orientation session and They told that For claiming HRA you need to provide Landlord PAN as proof.

Im going to declare HRA in ADP now. Can someone advise, what proof they gonna ask at the time of proof validation?

Additional Posts in Partner One

Hey Partners, first time posting on this bowl. New manager here and wanted ask you…What are characteristics of a good manager and what recommendations you have for a new manager like me?

Partners, MDs, what advice do you have for a SM/SD in their late 40’s? Give up on making Partner and focus on MD or leave all options open?

Thoughts in taking cpa exam just to be able to have partner title instead of principal. In tech consulting and don’t need nor will use cpa but I’m eligible to take it as I have acc undergrad / masters

I just participated in a climate strike. There’s a first time for everything.

Question for B4 PPMD 🐠: what would be some tenets of your approach / experience you would share with someone entering at SM level and aspires to play long and make partner? I understand there isn’t a “formula” or a “playbook” and that the question is purposely open ended, but anything that jumps to mind beyond the obvious would be most helpful. As you can tell, I’m looking for a senior mentor who can share their experience and help avoid some common pitfalls. Thanks in advance 🙏

I’ve had about 7 years of management consulting (post MBA, top tier) and another 6-7 in Corporate Strategy, M&A and Bus Dev. Is going back to consulting an option? I welcome any words of advice

Partners - after you hit your targets for the year, do you take it easy or just keep grinding like usual?

Anyone and everyone who left consulting before they made partner, how do you cope up with the feeling that “only if” or at times “you failed”

Am close to making Partner at my firm (T2 Strategy shop) but worries because I see many peers stagnate at my level for 4-6 years (I’m in Yr 2) and COVID crashes the pipeline (con’t)....

I just have to say thank you to the partners on here willing to put in the time to giving advice to us on here. P1 & P2 👏❤

I am naturally a grinder (this seems lazy ) with an Ivy MBA (maybe this is working smart).

Currently lead an ERP & WFM practice for a top ranked healthcare focused boutique. My background of many industry verticals is now single threaded and looking to open up that back up with ESG as a passion of mine.

Day 1 of seriously looking for opportunities and before I enlist the headhunter and alumni circle to do the lifting, thought I'd see if anyone was looking for a digital transformation leader.

Partners, are you promoting yourself all the time when you meet other partners? What else do you talk about when you meet with other partners?

Partners, can you tell when someone is either looking for other jobs or about to quit? What are the tell-take signs?

Hi Partners - can you pls share how much you made or make on your 1st and 2nd year post Partner admission?

Getting an offer for a position which is more senior than my experience? How do I de-leverage risk of Lower than expected performance while ensuring I don’t raise any red flags

Partners, when you started dating your current life partner, did you have a conversation with them about your expected work schedule, and the kind of time and attention you would give to the relationship, just to be sure that each person’s needs were being met ? How did you make time for your significant other? I think having a supportive spouse makes a difference to one’s career, and I’m wondering how you did it.

How bad are the big4 really doing this year? Starting to see cost saving maneuvers I have not seen in 11 years in public….

As a partner, do you honestly (and purposely) not respond to certain emails? I can't see how someone can make partner and not be detailed enough to see each email. What if there is a $3MM deal there? Do you hide behind the wall of "busy" to not respond to emails you don't want to? Any other reasons partners may "ghost" on an email?

Partners - What truly makes an entry level stand out? Excellent work is just a baseline expectation. The whole “I’m not intimidated, let’s have a coffee?”
