What’s a reasonable fee for an accountant? Single filer, W2 employee. Simple investments but just need some help filing correctly given a move between states, a recent start to investing in more tax advantaged accounts and more etfs. Otherwise pretty simple. Should this be a few hundred dollars?

It sounds like a fairly straight forward scenario that a tax preparation software can cover, you would want the more upgraded version as opposed to the basic or free version. A tax advisor is probably going to charge you more than a few hundreds.

like

Easy scenario. Std software is more than enough. ~120$ max

This is helpful thank you

At a minimum. Once your situation seems to complicated for a <$100 tax software you are probably looking at >$500. It takes time for them to onboard you as a client, prepare and review the return, and discuss with you. You could probably find someone who "does returns on the side" for less but YMMV.

Similar scenario, I just use freetaxusa.

I'm going to go this route as well. I used to be able to use firm software but no longer can. Used credit karma last year but that was sold to Cash App and they somehow locked my account in the transition and are unable/unwilling to let me proceed so I'll be looking elsewhere. Spouse has a small sch c so free tax USA seems like the best almost free option.

Turbotax

I pay ~$500. Own a few properties, have kids, nanny on payroll

I pay $600 as w-2 employee, with side hustle 1040/schedule C, rental properties, brokerage and crypto investments.
I realized a few years ago that I absolutely cannot use TurboTax anymore in my situation or else I pay less for the filing and more for the (incorrect) taxes

April 15 is three weeks away. Just do Turbo Tax.

I am in my early 40's and have about $300K invested and some in cash. I have $70K in credit card debt (no lavish lifestyle, just 2 bouts of unemployment and some major medical expenses, even after insurance).

I live below my means, LCOL city, used car, max my 401K, save my bonuses, etc.

I am going to get a large bonus where after tax, I'll get a couple hundred thousand.

Should I prioritize pay off all credit cards or pay down half/some of the cards and use the rest for a house down payment?

Newbie investor asked me a question, they have $5k to invest and were wondering if they should put it in an index fund (S&P500 - which is what I’d normally recommend plus DCA thereafter) or if they should buy AMZN given that it is well off of its highs, is a solid company and would, in 12-18 months, likely grow faster than the S&P, as interest rates normalize over that time period, etc. That got me thinking… so I’m asking all of you, what would you do/recommend?
