I’ve been working in public accounting (audit) for a year and I don’t enjoy the work and don’t see myself in this position for much longer. I’ve been thinking about going into marketing but stuck on how to get started. I know I have no prior experience, but since I’m early in my career and with taking some courses/certifications (Google analytics, SEO, etc.) to boost my resume, I’m hoping to make the switch. Any advice on where to start, what type of marketing positions I would align with, etc?
To add, i’ve been a supervisor for 6 months
Typically 8-10 years of experience (may be less in some cases as well).
I think more like 6-8 but depends on the particular agency structure.
Is it possible to get promoted in less than a year?
Possible, sure, but I would say this is extremely rare. It would be possible if you had a previous arrangement to re-evaluate your title after a certain number of months. Usually that's done if you had a higher title and took a title cut to work at this agency, but expressed dissatisfaction with the title during the negotiation process. Another circumstance might be if you had a job offer and they wanted you to stay, and gave you a counter. But I'd say you would have to be exceptional in that circumstance, because you've been there only 6 months and that's not enough time for them to really get attached to you where they felt they couldn't have you leave.
