Two weeks is absolutely fine.
2 weeks is standard. Shouldn't go shorter than that.
One day sounds good
No. When I left my former firm I gave them two weeks. They asked for more and I said no. Two weeks is enough to transition.
2 weeks is common. If you have good relatios with your boss maybe have a talk with them a couple of days/weeks before you hand in the notice.

2 weeks is common unless there’s some extenuating circumstance. I know plenty of people that give more.
I gave around 4-5 weeks notice each time. In one case my departure would have been shortly after a trial and I wanted the client/firm to have to opportunity to get someone else up to speed since I wouldn’t be available for much post trial briefing and in another I was more senior and had clients/matters that needed handing off since I was going in house.

Any gripes over giving slightly less than 2 weeks? I'm thinking of giving it Jan 3 with last day being Jan 13

I’ve heard of a chair refusing to count the day notice was given (first thing in the a.m.) as 1 of the days of the 2 weeks.

Alternatively, if you give more than 2 weeks, what are chances they just let you go right away?

In my experience, this seems to be more of a practice at smaller firms, not biglaw.
Anything is possible, but as inhumane as many biglaw lawyers can be, most (or at least partners with hiring/firing power) are astute enough to not torch a potential connection - people go in house, might be a potential referral if there’s a conflict.
