Unless you have another offer or substantial proof you’re underpaid it’s highly unlikely you’ll get 15%.
That kind of raise really only comes from switching jobs. I’m impressed you even got 10%.
It’s more likely you’ll get 3-5% and they’ll point to your big raise last year and say “we just gave you one!”
They don’t care about strong years. They want to make you just happy enough to stay, at the lowest price.
🙏 TY SVP. And thanks all for the helpful replies! I hope I’m not being one of those posters who asks a question and then yells “no!” at everyone who answers.
I don’t really expect to get everything I ask for, just was looking to understand if it’s totally outlandish to ask for it.
Unless you’re being promoted, that sounds way out of line.
Would it put me on the chopping block to ask for it?
Put together your work for the year that justifies your ask and then have the conversation. Always ask for what you believe you are worth, they can only say no. Don’t ask, don’t get. In my experience, if you ask for what you are worth and can justify it (eg business wins, pitch wins, award wins), it’s nowhere near the horrifying experience people think it is. The big wigs are getting theirs, make sure you get yours. As long as you’re pushing the agency and/or your brands forward, you’ve always got a case.
Dream bigger, expect a promotion do not ask for any kind of percentage. You deserve a title change, which would jump you to a higher pay band automatically. So you want a better title over more money, BECAUSE at any time after, you can move to another shop with your 'new' title and position yourself for another pay bump in the same year. Hope that helps.
Not really, my current title is Senior Copywriter. I already have an inflated title as far as any serious agency goes. I fear getting promoted to ACD would leave me with too large of a gap between my actual skills and my level.
Ah, I see said the blind man... You just want to milk your position a bit longer.
This just requires old fashion butt kissing... Just walk in to the bosses office, furrow your brow, use your church voice* and tell them you're getting outside offers - but that you 'really' love it there, you can you match or come close. Qualify what you tell them with a good excuse that you don't want to leave. Enjoy the extra scratch, you're welcome.

Ask for a title bump, not a raise (the latter comes with the former).
