Average merit increases are typically 3%, while promotions start around 10%. Percentages may skew higher for more junior employees, as their base is lower. Small agencies are really squeezed on budgets, as clients continue to demand more and pay less — and the past 12 months have only exacerbated this. For many agencies, the priority has been to keep people employed.

I think a 3% raise each year for meeting job description is expected since folks usually negotiate hard when they join. Entry level high performers are usually promoted once a year at the start and client budget/available roles matter less down that end of the path. Do you and your manager discuss where you’re at and how your performing?

My company gives out raises every year. I’ve heard of people getting upwards of 10%. No promotion, no change in title. That’s just your salary increase for the year. And it varies from department to department and it’s all subjective which is frustrating. How do you determine who gets 3%, 6%, 8%? I’ve heard of men who negotiated their initial offer and got a higher raise. When I tried to negotiate the 3% I was told that’s all they could offer. A male college negotiated his 4% initial raise to 6%. How is that fair?

3% has been standard for me historically. If you want a bigger jump that’s going to be a promotion or a new job.

I've been at my agency for three years and haven't received a merit raise or promotion, only a paltry 2% COLA. Yeah, I'm about done.

like

Smh that’s terrible

We don’t get COL raises at all. Promotions range from 10-30% in my experience

I’ve poked around asking colleagues across other departments and they received between 6% to 10%. Ad Operations is, in my opinion, the most overworked and underpaid team in the business. Why isn’t it worth more to the organization to keep you than to see you leave so that you can get paid what you deserve to be making?

2% a year

I used to get 2% when I worked in non-profits. I just think these companies are so GREEDY. They have the money to do better! They choose not to.
