What’s appropriate to wear for a zoom interview—VP level for a tech firm that dresses casual. I always feel overdressed!

I would say business casual is appropriate. My mom is the administrator for a law firm and she always insists that I dress nice and once I get the job I can dress to match the company.

like

If you feel slightly overdressed at the interview, that’s not a bad thing! Personally anytime I have to dress “professionally” on zoom it involved a collared dress shirt, which feels like a safe bet to me.

Once you have the job you can dress casual to fit with the culture. Dressing up for the interview (regardless of level in company) shows respect for the opportunity.

But most importantly wear something you feel amazing in - comfortable and confident - if you don’t feel like yourself in what you’re wearing, that is not the energy you may want to bring into the interview.

Good luck!!

Thanks everyone! I wore a dark blouse and made it to the second round before even hanging up!🙂 I was interviewing with a woman hiring manager too (and I’m a woman)

Appreciate the feedback!

I usually wear a neutral colour turtleneck with simple gold accessories. (Business casual type)

For what it’s worth dark colors look better on camera, whites and such wash out. I always just default to a crew neck black sweater with a necklace 👍🏻

My motto has always been “over dressed is better than under dressed”. I’d wear a nice dark, solid colored blouse.

We had someone come to our company to speak about how to present yourself on camera, and these were her tips:
- have things in the background, it gives the person a sense for who you are (books, pictures, plants, etc) but make sure it looks organized
- make sure the camera is level with your eyes as to not appear you are looking down on them (put books underneath your laptop to raise it to the right height)
- check your lighting (I recently did an interview and moved lamps around for better lighting)

like

Dark colors work but don't be afraid to be yourself or dress for your personality. I wore a hot pink blouse with a jean jacket and fun earrings.. and landed the job.

like

For zoom I wear a simple solid colored knit or t shirt that looks nice, or a blouse.

All in the accessories. And makeup if that’s your thing. And your background! Professional but cool

Hey everyone,
I have a second round interview with a saas company selling education software. This interview will be a 30 minute zoom call with the VP of sales. I am someone from a non- traditional background with 2 years of sales-ish roles but no experience in tech sales and no straight forward sales job.
I did a tech sales bootcamp. Im just worried about what questions he will ask me? Im thinking more technical in terms of sales processes and even sales funnels? Any thoughts?

A senior partner wrote off a significant amount of my time - due to his write-offs as well as those of another partner, approximately 40% of my 2021 billable hours have been erased. As a result, I will most likely not be eligible for a bonus in 2022. Do I address this with the managing partner of my office? With the partner who wrote off most of my time? Or do I stay silent to preserve what is, on the surface, a good working relationship, as this person could one day serve as a reference for me?

Hi,

Is it fine to call a HR if he's not answering. I have my HR discussions pending.

I called him once a day (twice on 2nd day with a gap of 4-5hrs in between)
for two days straight and third day he picked my call for scheduling the final interview.

It's been a week & he told I would receive a call from his team before today, but didn't receive.

Can I call him to remind or just keep on waiting till I receive a call from them.

Getting a reply for mail is highly unlikely. Please suggest

I was recently offered a Zoom interview. The school had 10 interview slots for me to choose from. Three were one day this week and the rest are next week. I chose the first time slot available. Should I have waited until one of the last slots so I was fresher on their mind when choosing a candidate? I am just sitting here stressing out until I here something. Also, do interviewers still appreciate a hand written thank you for the interview?

I’m applying to B schools and MBB / other jobs all together this year and wondering if mentioning that I’m LGBT and involved in my company’s Out network makes sense. Is that something that will looked upon favourably? Chance of it backfiring?

My husband has an opportunity near Boston that would make us relocate from the Midwest. My current employer is flexible and has given me the ok that I can permanently work from home. However, Boston is more expensive than where I currently live. I really want to ask for a raise but feel like my hands are tied. Anyone have a similar situation with advice on how to handle?
Note: hubby is negotiating assuming I won't get a raise and I don't want to change jobs if I don't have to.
