What’s everyone’s summer (May-Sept) working hours - assuming you don’t have a 6/30 year end client. The partners expectation is 8-6:30 and logging on from home after that some days. Is that insane?

Yes, 10.5 hours plus wfh during the slow season is insane. Find a new job immediately.

9am-5/6pm

like

Yes it’s insane I’ve been clocking in 10 hours still. Haven’t “slowed down” yet. This is absurd.

like

off peak, i leave at 4 and my laptop stays in my car until I get to work at 930 the next day 😂

There are always going to be isolated situations where client service, deadlines and deals cause longer hours during the summer. But this should not be the norm. If there is a lot of workflow, hopefully hours would stay in the 40-45 hour range. And there are some weeks where hours are 35-40 hours as well. What city OP? DM me if you would like some one on one feedback and ideas. I've been in this industry for more than 30 years and I have opinions and insights on this subject.

Lol I’m on a client that expects us to work 10-12 hours a day and WFH at night. As a first year associate, I’ve been thrown on 3 filings back to back (Sept to May) and my “off season” is still one large fire drill. Many of my peers (1st years) have been on multiple filings back to back, and it has taken a huge toll on our health and wellbeing. Planning on GTFO asap. The Bay Area offices have a serious staff retention problem, and thats what happens when mgmt makes work well, be well a last priority.

40-45 hours per week. How that’s split up varies. Usually it’s 8-5:30/6 M-Th, and then I leave early (like 3pm) on Friday

like

Yes that’s insane

like

That’s ridiculous!!!!

like

I've been working 9-5 everyday and wfh on Fridays. I don't see any reason in working extra hours if there's not enough work in slow season. In my opinion, this makes up for the crappy hours we worked without OT pay during busy season

like

We work really hard to keep our staff at 40 hours per week during the off-busy season.

like

Hah, I wish my managers/senior managers/partners did too!

like

Yes that’s insane

like

I think this is really common at PwC. I’ve been doing 9-7 for the last few weeks primarily because we’re down so many staff members and a lot of extra work came in.

like

I have a 6/30 client and I work 9-4:30.

like

I do a 9-4

like

That is insane!!!!

like

I’ve been doing between 50-70.. busy season never ends!

like

I’m working from 7am -6:30pm and some evenings from home

I do this regularly

That’s wild. I’m on a huge 6/30 YE client and even I don’t do that yet

PowerPoint gurus - I’m helping a client find short term help for an important presentation. Please DM me if you are good at storytelling and slide design. You will be compensated for this work. This will be a 3-4 day part-time engagement. I’m at a small tech focused firm, and don’t have in-house designers as yet. Plus I don’t want to spend hours building slides. Nothing illegal or fishy here. Thanks!

Had a very early call with the client and foreign lawyers this morning. One of the other country lawyers couldn’t use my telecon number, so I had to set up an impromptu Zoom meeting. In pajamas, no makeup. Firm’s Zoom has no option for the organizer to start the meeting with their camera off for some reason. Client and other lawyers are all female, and they all turned their cameras on in solidarity. I love the supportive women I have the pleasure to work with. Any other Zoom WFH war stories?

If every study shows bad management slows productivity and cost companies good employees, why are all these a**hole clients and the MDs who turn a blind eye protected? My client's awful attitude creates an extremely unproductive environment. We spend more time protecting his ego or getting irrationally screamed at, than we do doing our jobs. I thought our MD might step in, but he just completely downplayed it and even blamed us. Why isn't there more attention on changing this outdated ideology?
