There are so many factors. Right now budgets are in flux. One day it’s an open role, the next ❌ it’s closed. And things are taking muuuuuch longer to approve. Be patient. Things are weird.
The hire and pay needs to be approved by HR. Once approved, the offer should be extended. Sometimes this can take a while if they are trying to find budget from somewhere to match a requested salary.
Usually depends on size of the agency and whether they’re owned by a holding company. Independent stop here. Our process: Recruiter submits hire info for approval to Finance/HR/Ops. Once approved, offer made. If you’re interviewing at a holding company agency, it can take a lot longer because that’s another layer of approval. I had plenty of offers approved by my agency and denied by the holding co. Sometimes it’s quick, but it can also take weeks. I can imagine that in this climate, it’s probably not the quickest.
That's like asking "how long is a string?" It depends on internal processes and it often takes as quite long in many instances.
There are approvals to be secured, references checked, back channel checking (your social media, people who you didn't give as references who the hiring manager or someone else knows) and more.
Don't let it build up in your head or get overly anxious. It helps to clarify the time thru internal or external recruiters like my firm.
