What’s is stressing you out more, virtual school with continued lockdown (some may have their own kids at home too) or going back to the classroom with safety precautions?

Yikes, I would not sign that. I am growing less comfortable with the idea of going back, but at least our school district is planning for a hybrid model with class sizes under 12. I have read some articles lately that make me worry about reopening in person at all. The thought of going back to teaching online, while worrying about my 3 kids getting their online work done, causes me extreme stress 😩

likehelpful

Our hybrid model has now no guarantee of any number less than 15, and they are loading the hybrid classes with combos!

Going back to school because my district is not really implementing any safety procedures. Faculty/staff are required to wear masks that we provide for ourselves, students are “highly encouraged” to wear masks. Student work areas have to be wiped down between classes, but the teacher has to provide the cleaning stuff. All faculty and staff are “encouraged” to self-asses at home before coming to school and to stay home if they have any symptoms, or anyone in their house does. Pretty much, this is going to be a cluster f.....

Going back def worries me more than teaching online. I would honestly prefer to teach online until December then see where we are then.

Always love a baseball analogy!😁

As a special Ed teacher I think I am more afraid to stay home than to be face to face with my students. The thought of specialized instruction is daunting in an online forum. As of right now teachers report on Aug 3 and students on the 13th.

Virtual schools have always been on the horizon. I’ve been trying to prepare myself for years. My fear was that my job would go away. But now Ive decided to embrace the change and the adventure of the unknown.

I agree with the thought of teach remotely for the first semester and see where we are then. The vaccine will be coming out by then, too. I really hate the thought of being forced to be around so many potentially infected people when I’ve tried so hard since March to protect my family and myself.

like

What?? What?? My friend is in the medical research field, and she does not foresee a vaccine before the 2021-2022 school year. At the very earliest, next Summer. Any earlier is true wishful thinking.

The thoughts of going back face to face. I have a college freshman & a high school sophomore. We don’t want to learn digitally, but face to face frightens is more! We won’t be able to distance given very few signed up for our county’s virtual option. Masks are not required but are suggested. Temps will not be checked on a daily basis.

like

Me personally… If I were in a state with super high infection rates and a delusional governor, I would do whatever I had to do to not go back in person. And I would definitely not send my children back to school. What are they going to say when you’re dead? What are they going to tell you if one of your children dies? Sorry? No thanks.

like

Agree with you, New Jersey High School.

Going back in the classroom with kids. So many acting like it’s not a big deal, get over yourself etc. except for hospitals, no essential worker has an entire group of humans in a room with them that most probably won’t easily social distance ( in a room the size of your master bedroom) or easily keep masks on. Another teacher I work with just went off on teachers who are reluctant to go back. It makes me question my sanity and makes me feel selfish. I know it’s not ideal to go online but nothing about this virus is ideal, and IMO we don’t know enough to just go back.

Not knowing is the most stressful.

UPDATE- our district is now considering other options as our Covid numbers are exploding..praying for the distance option to keep our community, students and staff safe...

like

Good. Glad to hear it. That’s what they should be doing!

Really it is just the unknown. We will be 100% virtual 1st marking period but we don't know after that. I don't know what I am teaching yet because our master schedule is not complete. I'm just playing a waiting in limbo game and trying to maintain an open mind and a calm heart about the whole thing.

like

I do not feel it is safe to go back right now. I agree that virtual instruction would be the best way to start the year.

like

Being able to breathe with a mask on all day. O wear them everywhere but feel like I'm suffocating. It's not made up. I can't breathe in. I don't want yo stay home.

likehelpful

What kind of mask are you wearing? Some are more comfortable than others. I find the first ones I bought (hand sewn thick are the most comfortable for me) but everyone is different. My husband prefers a thinner material mask that has a pocket for a pm2.5 filter more comfortable; it’s not as tight. He has some issues with feeling claustrophobic. It got better for both of us the more we wore them. Good luck. I hope you find one you can wear more comfortably.

Not knowing is stressing me out the most! If I just knew what the ‘start plan’ was for the end of August a lot of my stress would decrease, no matter what!

like

Agree! Just give me a plan and I’ll do it!

Virtual school. Trying to learn how to do Canvas and feeling more and more defeated and flat out dumb. I am doing my online training now, and even though it is self paced and had instructional videos.., I can hardly figure out what I am doing🙁

like

Texas HS1, that is very kind of you. 😊

How about having to go back with few safety precautions while also teaching some sections virtually and some with a blend of f2f and online students. And then eventually and inevitably getting Covid? That’s what has me stressed.

like

I don’t feel there are adequate safeguards. For example, they aren’t even doing temperature checks at my school. Masks are required. It looks kind of spooky to me. 😱

like

Virtual.. how in the world am I supposed to teach 1st grade virtually???????

like

I agree. Teaching kindergarten virtually is stressing me out. It feels impossible

like

With all of the "precautions", how much learning is really going to go on. Mask, face shields, temp checks, social distancing etc..

And dead people can’t teach.
