Whats left in consulting if there’s- - no miles - no hotel points - no free food - no client interaction - stuck in front of your laptop in your room for 15 hrs a day What will still keep you motivated?

But the alcohol will no longer be expensable. Not as fun coming out of your own pocket

But on a serious note consulting is more fun than working in industry IMO. The flexibility to work on a new project every few months keeps things exciting and allows for a lot of growth

The work I do is primarily technology implementation. Heavy on Salesforce but not exclusive to it — most of what I do is a blend of functional and technical work. Starting to get less “hands on the keyboard” the longer I’ve been in the space, which I both like and don’t like at the same time

Money

like

The ridiculous amount of money we get paid. The interesting and varied work we do. The ability to now be home with my family and not have to wake up at 3 in the morning on Mondays, which is a strong positive. The great people I work with.

I’m not inclined to spend that much time in front of my computer if it’s me at home instead of me in a hotel or on a plane. If the comp stagnates bc we’re not traveling I am out.

We’ll get back to it at some point. Weather the storm or exit, up to you!

My savings is going up quick enough to buy a high end vacation every two weeks. Who in their right mind would miss traveling to business parks? You need to embrace the remote life. You realize you can work from anywhere with internet right? I hope business parks, conference rooms, cramming in planes is a thing of the past.

You are not entitled to any of these things

like

OP didn’t say anything about being entitled to these things, not sure why you tried to make this sound so negative, but they are part of the job that we have always been able to count on until now. Personally for me it’s not these perks I’m missing so much as the team environment. Without that, it’s just me, my laptop for 14 hours a day, and twice daily team check in calls. If this is my life for the next year I don’t think I can justify this work to myself any more. If I’m missing all the good things, then why work this much

So basically, just a local project, then? Is that your question? What is it like to work on a local project?

Don't really know what to say except your consulting experience has been pretty different from mine. My project's have never really done any of that stuff.
