I personally value specific knowledge more because I can get a better idea of someone's expertise. It's important to me that employees have knowledge and experience in the field they'll be working in. Random portfolio examples don't really give me a sense of that. If they are really good, then I might give them a chance. But it's less likely than if they have solid specific industry knowledge.
I think you need both. But portfolio examples shouldn't be "random" to begin with. Your portfolio should speak to your industry knowledge and expertise.
Oh, hands down go with industry specific examples any time you can. Those will put you has a front runner for any role that you are wanting
I would say portfolio examples as a good portfolio would be able to say a lot about your industry knowledge, so it hits on the head and I'm able to see what you do with the knowledge you have.
They go hand in hand. Portfolio examples show your specific industry knowledge. So I say both.
A mix of both...I think industry knowledge goes a lot further when you move to the brand side. It's the kind of insight they don't really get otherwise
A mix of both, not too random and not too specific. Variety shows me that you’re not a one-trick-pony, that you can adapt and are resourceful. Some specificity shows me that you understand unique challenges and can follow guidelines and briefs. Also, that your pretty varied pieces are not a coincidence.
