They’re not mutually exclusive. Being a well informed citizen would support an individual’s ability to successfully navigate the work force and advocate for themselves. Learning how to navigate the work force is embedded within understanding how to function effectively as a citizen in a particular society.
Must they be different?
I think they are both important. I teach cte classes so am constantly talking about going to work but also try to work on th skills that keeps our society together.
They go together yes?

Most jobs of the future don't exist today.
Critical thinking and being well rounded are essential skills.
Work force.
We need to train them to be in tbe workforce. A truly successful person in the workforce would be well educated in many different areas. As for citizens of our democracy, we need to give them the facts, taught in a neutral point of view and let them make an educated and well informed decision. So many people will put a liberal twist on everything and blaming Trump for everything, even polices made with past presidents. If we do put one twist on something, then we meed to fo a pillow talk version. Have multiple sides to be presented so we can make the very best decision possible.
Why did you have to bring up the “liberal” slant bs? It’s constant with the insecurities, no wonder we can’t find common ground, 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
They must go together. If they don’t and we only train for the workforce, aren’t we just creating automatons who don’t question those in power or anything in society? And if we only teach how to be a citizen in a democracy, aren’t we hamstringing them when it comes time to get employed and enter positions and careers of influence?
It shouldn’t be workforce skills vs citizen education; it should be workforce skills AND citizen education.
I think they go hand in hand. If you are preparing them for the workforce they should be learning skills to communicate and the importance of good communication as well as the importance of being an informed citizen.
