“Synchronous/Asynchronous”

That’s what I was going to say!! 🙂

The “new normal”.....sick of hearing that!

Unprecedented

likefunnysmart

Oops....stole yours, sorry!

“We are all in this together” (from Admin & SB who have no clue what we are actually going through)

likefunny

NONE

Tranparency — there is none.

likefunny

My district really prides itself on its transparency. We get weekly reports of how our town and county stacks up against the state, and we get feedback from our superintendent as to the state of the district about three times per year. Our superintendent is visible and in the schools as we are going about our work day. It is refreshing, really.

“I hope this email finds you well.”

likefunnysmart

Every time I read it, I just want to reply with, “No, your email has not found me well. I have anxiety all the time and have no idea why you would assume I am well at all!”

Amen! I've had enough of that to last a lifetime. During the shut-down that our state experienced, the local Sonic was open as an essential workplace. I would go there, not for the food, but for human interaction.

Grace

like

In our district, grace is given to students and teachers alike. The admin and superintendent realize that we are stretched and stressed to the max this year, and are letting some things slide in favor of other things that are more important.

I figure it this way--as an adult, I need grace in everything that I do. Why don't my kids deserve that same grace?

Remote/hybrid

likefunny

Specifically the fact that some have to do both... at the same time!

Isn't dealing with all those moving parts kind've THEIR JOBS? THEY are the supervisors and liaisons. that's why they call us "teachers" not coordinators or (gasp) administrators

like

Pivot

likefunny

“Don’t have enough bandwidth for that”

likefunnysmart

Yes. We didn't have enough bandwidth last year, but this year, we've actually been able to closely guard the password for the teacher's laptops, and kids can't get on our internet unless their phones are approved by the district.

Either "unprecedented" or "pivot".

likefunny

Ha! I said "pivot" too. I purposely didn't look at the list before I responded. "Unprecedented" also has to go.

like

like

like

At the end of communications ..

"This email is valid as of (insert date) but remember the situation fluid."

like

“You are so appreciated!” Followed by eight emails about additional work and mystery covid positive people. My district doesn’t inform anyone about anything so we never know.

like

Yes, seems like they’re all the same.

accountability......it means 1 thing for us, and a vastly different thing for students/parents

likefunny

Amen to that!!

Does anyone have experience leaving their firm and using the pension benefit to negotiate with the new company? I’m not vested and will receive an offer from industry (company doesn’t have a pension plan). Curious to hear what others have done. My pension wouldn’t be huge but it’s a decent chunk of money to walk away from. What are some things that have worked? Additional sign-on bonus, bigger stock grants, etc. Thanks.

Once I’ve maxed out my 401k and IRA accounts, where else can I do with my savings if I wanna continue investing in stocks? Feel like keeping a stash in a high yield savings acct isn’t the best rn.

Are there any executives out there who have recently negotiated with their CEO for an updated compensation package? I know I'm being underpaid as a CFO who has also handled all of the HR responsibilities for the past 3 years. Currently at $130K with $30K bonus at the end of the year. I don't take the insurance through the company either. Currently no 401K match program available.

Where can I start learning about retirement in America? I’m naive on the topic and originally from another country so I need reliable learning resources. I’m 31 and don’t have anything yet, except 6months in emergency fund and I started traditional 401k a few months ago, but can’t max it out currently as I make less than $70k right and single, so I’m currently putting 6% on a targeted retirement age portfolio.

I am currently at a firm and received an in-house offer. Aside from main items like comp and big ticket benefits like PTO/health insurance/401k, what other items do I need to think about discussing/negotiating? For example, fees to keep bar licensure, professional association fees, CLEs, etc. I feel like there is so much on that end I currently take for granted being covered at my firm. Anything else I should consider?

Anyone have perspective on how MBB (specifically Bain) benefits are better than big 4? I heard Bain contributes 4.5% of salary to your 401k regardless of any employee contributions, which is great. Any other big perks that make their benefits package superior to others (eg. Big 4)?

Less than a year before I can retire and not sure I can make it. The stress at home, work and with the aches and pains of my 54 year old body are taking their toll. I’m contributing post-tax 401k offered by my employer to take advantage of the mega backdoor Roth. How often do people roll it over to their Roth IRA account? Like every month? I understand that any gains rolled over would be subject to tax but don’t expect it much given the market is down currently.

Hello, I have received an offer from Southwest Airlines as a Associate Technology Analyst with their direct college hire program. Will be graduating in May with a degree in MIS and also have internships experience as a Business Systems analyst intern. The salary compensation started off at 66,500 but was looking for the 75k range and they got back to me saying the best they can do is 68,500. They also have a 401k company match up to 9.3%. Do you think this is a solid offer for this job market?

Has anyone figured out how to not feel absolutely horrendous when you wake up? I dread mornings because waking it so hard for me.
