Walking to a further subway station on my way to work instead of taking it from the one closest to my home. It helps me wake up and get some steps in early.

When I move to the suburbs from NYC I immediately put on weight. I went from walking an hour a day to less than 15 minutes.

Cuddle with my dog and cats. Lay in my hammock for a few minutes in the middle of the day to take a break from work.

I mix it up a lot. I’ll go for runs, lift weights, take yoga classes or take HIIT classes like Orange Theory from time to time.

How does that help?

Practicing gratitude. Focusing on that paves the way to happiness. Sunsets, that person that let me in on the way to work, the way rain on the weekend gives me an excuse to sleep in, my wife’s innocent smile, my kids running around like crazy people, the leaves changing colors, a great sermon, the restaurant seating me at a great table, etc.

Find a way to see and be grateful for the positive in everything and your life will change.

Vitamin D is also a game changer. ☺️

Don’t care as much about work

After work, I put my phone away and try to have as silent as space as possible and just lay on my back (on any floor) and just lay there for 10 minutes at least. It helps decompress and bring down some of my anxiety, stress and winds me down after work! You can start off with 5 minutes! Just throw everything as soon as you step home/finish work and lay on your back

Cake - don’t feel bad, this is something I’ve been “trying” to do consistently for the better part of a decade lol.

Best two strategies for me have been to put my phone on the charger in another room, and to actually have a book that I’m really interested in or one that has actionable advice. Don’t be afraid to ditch a book if it’s not your jam.

Sleep routine

like

I generally keep the routine on weekends, but the timing is different since I tend to stay up later.

If you can, dim the lights and set your phone to turn bluelight to red (I use Twilight app) when the sun starts to set - helps your melatonin to start building.

Routine starts ~2hrs before I intend to sleep: shower/brush teeth, skincare, stretch (10-15min), meditate or read a physical book in comfortably low lighting (~30min), then a sleep meditation or story (Insight Timer app).

I typically drift off in <10mins of the sleep meditation, but there's some long ones out there, if you need to unwind. Both apps are totally free.

For me, it’s playing music. I have a Sonos system throughout the apartment and I if I don’t turn anything on for a few days, I notice my mood tanking.

Conversely, if I’m in a bad mood, getting something I enjoy playing in every room helps me feel a lot better!

like

Lifting, and listening to music are typically good ways to keep me going on weekdays.

Hikiking or going out for a walk somewhere and getting some fresh air helps reset on the weekends.

Baking and cooking when I'm REALLY stressed out or frustrated.

Oh and surrounding myself with positive, supportive people, who are willing to listen without putting me down goes a long way in general. I'm working on cutting off the remaining negative toxic people.

Any United health group remote employees here? I recently accepted an accounting job and some of the onboard makes it seem like I’m only allowed to work from my home office. My fiancé just made Aliyah for med school. Long distance is hard but I love my job/firm culture. I wish I could stay, but I’ll need to switch to a firm that allows working abroad in a year at the latest. In a year, we get married and I make Aliyah too. I’m afraid to tell anyone at my firm. I’m also looking for American companies that pay well and allow employees to live in Israel. Thoughts? Advice?

I have a dilemma. I lead a recruiting team in a consulting group and we are having trouble meeting our numbers. We are under pressure to deliver and we have been working together to make our numbers grow. Today I find out that one of the recruiters went to HR to say I have been pressuring them too much. I have a lead on my team who I discussed this with who doesn’t think there has been pressure at all. Suggestions ? I don’t know who the person is.

Curious if this happens to anyone else - I workout regularly (mix of cardio and strength training) and eat healthy 90% of times. I make sure to eat veggies and protein in almost every meal, alongside some carbs. In general, I’m a big foodie and do love food. But I am CONSTANTLY hungry. No matter how satiated I feel after a meal, I’m hungry again in an hour. Not sure if this is psychological more than physical, but I’m trying to lose weight and this is making it so tough!
