What’s something you wish your supervisor/boss did more (or perhaps less) of during this WFH time?

I wish they stopped implying that now is the time to step up, be proactive, and bring the best of ourselves forward within the context of work. It sounds disheartening (and frankly a bit privileged) to those of us stretched thin in our personal lives with situations ranging from elderly caregiving to childcare to mental health issues and so forth to a name a few.

Gonna say this same shit to them come review and raise time. “Step up, be proactive, bring your best offer forward.”

Less pressure to be REACHABLE 24/7

Agree. We’re not just working from home. We’re in a crisis, working from home.

Less zoom meetings that could have been a regular call or email

At least it's zoom. We use Microsoft Teams. :/

Yeah...uh...they can’t. They are being kind by not lying to you.

Pretty proud of my boss so far in this crisis. Available, showing inspiring leadership.

They were proactive about us working from home sooner (about 2 weeks) than some of the other agencies my friends work at. Communicated that they're (partners) taking the first paycuts (just today) because of everything that's going on. No micromanaging about WFH, everyone getting their stuff done. Said that we're going to continue working for our clients that need to reduce budget or maybe not even pay for a few months because this too shall pass and we need to be there for each other. Now this is me talking: Obviously they said they will continue to make changes as needed and if pay cuts for other staff happen it is what it is there's nothing they can do about it, which I totally get. We're a smaller independent agency so it's easier for us to do things like this, but still been best it can be under the circumstances.

Stop trying to make people go on video calls and “show your face”. The whole perk of working from home is not having to wear makeup and stay in your pajamas

like

I admit I used to shy from the video for lack of makeup, overuse of ponytails, *crap* in my office, the constant workout wear, or fear my kids would come running in. I’ve found that I feel a better connection with my junior team and my leaders when opening up to video. I have yet to be on a zoom with someone who looks perfect, has the ideal office/background or has no unexpected pet/child interruptions. We’re all human, and I think the human connection on any level is far more important than a connection with someone who appears office ready. Im starting to take pride in the daily workout gear and ponytail so it’s easy for me to take the dog on a jog at lunch, my office thats a disaster or my kids talking wildly in their virtual classroom as they learn this new reality. We are all in this together. Try turning on the camera occasionally, and I think you’ll see it gets easier, not everyone is perfect, and communication can be much more effective. *Credit to my teams that have helped me open up*

Would be nice if everything wasn’t framed in an absolute panic, like it may be the last job we ever work.

Stop pretending he/she is working when we all know he/she isn’t at all.

At all?
