What's the advantage of having a Roth ira vs a Roth 401k, I have been investing in a Roth 401k, now thinking if I should switch

Newbie here but it seems like Roth 401k is better without the 6k contribution cap

You can have both so I'm not sure why you feel the need to choose one. Roth IRA is more flexible since you can withdraw contributions penalty free anytime.

like

You have more flexibility with an IRA. That said make sure to contribute to 401k first at least to company match limit.

likehelpful

Roth 401k has RMDs and less investment options compared to a Roth IRA. I go normal 401k up to company match, then Roth IRA for the $6k limit and then anything else you can decide if you want to go roth 401k vs traditional 401k

like

Yeah, just calling it out though because you’re right only so long as legislation does not change the rules before you roll your funds over

401(k) are run by companies - companies can have their own limiting rules.

I fully fund both a 401k and a Roth IRA (via the backdoor method). This way I’m hedged regardless of where my tax bracket falls when I retire.

For those of you that work from home, is there any salary or benefits that would convince you to return to the office full time? Friday was complicated. So, I am going to break it down. Nasdaq 100 Futures (NQ) traded to the 9837 level, 32.75 points short of it's 50% HWB short. It then proceeded to sell off like nobody's business to 9846.50, 31.5 points higher than the projected objective for the HWB short. So, if you followed me on the channel, we were positioned for a nice rally at the end of the day. Markets have no memory on Friday afternoon. So, I think we are going up eventually and rally hard.

I’m contributing post-tax 401k offered by my employer to take advantage of the mega backdoor Roth. How often do people roll it over to their Roth IRA account? Like every month? I’m trying to also rationalize paying for my own in NYC but it’s so expensive ($500+/mo). I go to the doctor fairly often. Single NYC freelancers (no kids), what do you pay monthly or yearly? Worth it?
