Probably citi double cash back if you dont want to worry about remembering categories... if you like the categories aspect (5% gas 1st quarter, etc.) Discover it is pretty good as they match all your cash back on your first year and amex blue preferred has 6% on supermarkets year round which is amazing but $95 annual fee
It was the NRA card....no joke. I think the Chase Freedom > Freedom Unlimited > Ink Cash triumvirate is the best, especially if you also match with a CSR for the better redemption. Basically max out the categories and do any other spend on the unlimited, should be able to do vastly better than 2% in aggregate this way.
Citi Double cash, for no category thinking, granted you pay your bill in full (2% total: 1% as you swipe and 1% as you pay back Citi)
Accenture post on Discover It is good as that 10% cash back year 1 is great (on certain categories every quarter up to $1500 in spend, at 5% back which is doubled hence the 10%) and if you wanna use the strategy for Discover It, where discover isn't anal about having 2 of these cards, you get the first discover, for example today, and then a year from now (year 2) you get another. This way 10% for two years, and 2% (because of cash back match) on everything. Then in year 3 you cancel year 2's discover it (not year 1s) because you will have longer age if accounts and etc credit score benefits wise by not touching year 1's. So every year you keep cancelling the previous and reapply and they're pretty good about it, like you can just ask them for it and they may give you another year instead you doing the strategy for a certain year and all :)
Discover It Miles for the first year, 1.5% doubled to 3% for that first year. Or Alliant CU has a 2.5% card that is 3% for year one. I believe USAA has a 2.5% card, but they may have closed sign ups for that.
SC1 agreed - that’s what I have and I find it amazing. However the OP asked for cash back specifically so there are cards where you can always do better than 1.5% cash back which is what we r getting from freedom unlimited... now if he values UR points like we do, that 1.5 quickly becomes 2.25 with the CSR
Freedom and Ink Cash both have a variety of 5% categories that vary by calendar quarter, so when gas is one of those you max out on gas gift cards and then just go. Not quite as simple as just a flat 1.5% card but much more lucrative.
