I've heard multiple people say at a certain age, it no longer makes sense to make partner. What does that even mean? I know you typically have to be a partner for 10 years to fully vest in the pension. But even if I were a partner for just 2 years, isn't it still better to be a partner? Year 1 partner comp might be almost same as your comp the year you made partner due to health insurance and buy in, but it's not like you're worse off as a partner. And you get your buy in back when you leave.

As a woman, I find the calls for Biden to name a Black woman VP and his pledge to select a woman very patronizing. It'd be better imo if he at least made the process publicly seem like he was weighing all candidates on their merits versus just checking a box, so the woman he selects would seem like they were picked based on credentials, even if he was planning to pick a woman the entire time.

My organization absorbed another and the former deputy PM became a branch head - a demotion. For org was more focused on tech dev and not delivering a product on a sked. New org is very focused on that. He is not a driving leader, but is the only one with the tech knowledge needed. He is retirement eligible. He has no heir apparent - previous org didn’t plan that way. If I move him under someone who is a driver - he retires and I lose the knowledge. If I don’t, we may not meet schedules. Advice?
